SAY10
Marilyn Manson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Devil's got a cut, like a slit in a cattles calf
Dollar sign snakes, I'm all in the damned
Godless, fearless of the flood
Or the blood of the coming spring

Something is shedding its scales
Crying from the heat of the light
Or the empty shell on the stage
And cash is a poor man's money
And cash is a poor man's money

You say "God" and I say "Say 10"
You say "God" and I say "Say 10"
Say, say, say 10

Open your mouth, love
Like a gutted church
My goat horns are napalm trees
And a crown of thorns is hard to swallow

You should pray now
Is it above or is it below?
You should pray now
Is it above or is it below?

You say "God" and I say "Say 10"
You say "God" and I say "Say 10"
Say, say, say 10

You say "God", I say "Say 10"
You say "God" and I say "Say 10"
Say, say, say 10

Cocaine and Abel, I don't baptize whores
I'm a legend, I'm not a fable
Cocaine and Abel, I don't baptize whores
I'm a legend, I'm not a fable
Cocaine and Abel, I don't baptize whores
I'm a legend, I'm not a fable

You should pray now
Is it above or is it below?
You should pray now
Is it above or is it below?

You say "God" and I say "Say 10"
You say "God" and I say "Say 10"
Say, say, say 10

You say "God" and I say "Say 10"
You say "God" and I say "Say 10"
Say, say, say 10

Say, say, say 10
Say, say, say 10

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Marilyn Manson's song SAY10 are complex and open to interpretation. The opening lines describe the devil as having a cut like that of a slit calf, and the singer proclaims that they are completely in thrall to the devil. The following lines assert that they are godless and fearless, accepting of both the flood and the blood of the coming spring, suggesting an apocalyptic or revolutionary vision. The lines "something is shedding its scales/crying from the heat of the light" suggest the possibility of transformation, of rebirth or metamorphosis, while "cash is a poor man's money" reveals a disdain for material wealth.

The chorus repeats the phrase "you say 'God' and I say 'Say 10'" which seems to be a play on words, but also a statement - a rejection of traditional religion and a declaration of allegiance to the devil. The singer's goat horns are "napalm trees" and the crown of thorns they wear is difficult to swallow - perhaps a reference to the difficulty of being an outsider in a society that values conformity.

The final lines repeat the refrain "you say 'God' and I say 'Say 10'" while also referencing Cain and Abel and the idea of being a legend rather than a fable. Ultimately, the song seems to be a rejection of traditional values and a call for rebellion and self-discovery.

@Lillian dahmer I think abusers need to be dealt with, that being said we don't know enough about Marilyn Mansons case yet, though I feel like this is a case where young girls agreed and consented to do wierd shit with him and regretted it, at the end of the day they did consent (in my opinion) and so MM did nothing wrong. In the case of Johnny Depp, Amber Heard is just a fucking bitch that is using Gender based violence to manipulate her story.

Glad Johnny won... now it's your turn Marilyn! Love you! Huge fan! First concert I ever took my son to ( when he turned 11) was to see you! He's been a huge fan ever since too! Hoping you tour, and come to Cincinnati again!
