You saw me
The one by my side wasn't you
I'm sorry
And I knew right then
That I lost you there
You took me in
In spite of me
You made me feel invited
Nobody else
That is what I decided
Selfish and dumb, stupid and young
Yeah, that's me
But from all of the wrongs, you make it right
And forgive me
It's been said before
But I'll try once more
You are the one
In spite of me
You made me feel invited
Nobody else
That is what I decided
God, it was late, I was drunk
You saw me
The one by my side, he wasn't you
I'm sorry
You made me feel invited
I'm sorry
Nobody else
That is what I decided
In spite of me, you're here
In spite of me
You made me feel invited
Nobody else
That is what I decided
In spite of me, you're here
In spite of me
In spite of me
The lyrics to Marion Raven's song In Spite Of Me speak to a situation where someone has made mistakes and acted immaturely in a relationship, resulting in causing hurt to their partner. The singer admits to being drunk and being dishonest with their partner, leading them to lose the trust and love of the person they care for. However, despite their wrongdoing, the partner still accepts them back and makes them feel welcomed, loved and supported.
The phrase "In spite of me" is repeated throughout the song, highlighting the fact that regardless of how badly the singer has behaved, their partner’s love and commitment to them remain steadfast. The lyrics are relatable, and speak to the power of forgiveness and the resilience of relationships.
The words "selfish and dumb, stupid and young, yeah, that's me" present the singer as self-aware and honest about their own flaws, while the repeated apologies underline the desperation to make amends. Overall, the song's message is hopeful and optimistic, suggesting that even when relationships are tested, it is possible to find redemption and love again.
