The Flame
Marion Raven Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Move without your groove that I can do
Would you like the Lord
To have mercy on your soul, mercy on you?
That's what people do fall in love like you
And I that was my mistake
And I will never make that mistake again
Forever i will be the flame
Alive in your heart forever and ever
Did I get you wrong?
You misunderstood, I misunderstood
Let go of what you've got
Help me put 'em on good for you
That's what people do fall in love like you
And I that was my mistake
And I will never make that mistake again
I will be the flame that burns in your heart
Forever i will be the flame
Alive in your heart forever and ever
Would you like me to live in your heart
Forever and ever? Would you like me to live
In your heart forever and ever?
And ever? And ever? And ever? And ever?
In the first verse, the singer is expressing their desire to move on without being controlled or influenced by their partner. They are asking if the partner would prefer for them to find their own path, separate from the familiar routine they have established together. The line about the Lord having mercy on their soul suggests that the singer feels trapped in the relationship and seeks spiritual guidance or release from it.
The chorus reflects on the universal experience of falling in love and how the singer made the mistake of falling for someone like their partner. They acknowledge their previous error and affirm that they won't repeat it. The repetition of the line "I will be the flame that burns in your heart" signifies the singer's determination to remain a passionate presence in their partner's life, even if they are no longer together. They want to be an enduring symbol of intensity and warmth in their partner's heart.
In the second verse, the singer questions if they have misunderstood their partner's intentions or feelings. They acknowledge that they themselves may have been mistaken as well. The line "let go of what you've got, help me put 'em on good for you" suggests a plea for the partner to let go of their current situation and make a fresh start together, dressing their wounds and embracing a better future.
The final repetition of the chorus reaffirms the singer's commitment to being a flame in their partner's heart forever. They ask if their partner wants them to continue living in their heart for eternity, emphasizing the idea of a lasting and unbreakable connection. The repetition of "and ever" suggests an intense longing for eternal love and endearment.
Overall, the lyrics portray a desire to break free from a dysfunctional relationship, learn from past mistakes, and create a lasting impact on the heart of their partner, even if they are no longer together.
