A-Okay
Mars Argo Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I grew up in a home where emotion means nothing
When your heart is a stone and feel numb to it beating
Mommy taught me to "marry a man for his money"
Daddy taught me " never rely on anybody "

I was so confused
About my point of view
I didnt know the truth
Until i met you

And everything was okay
Everything is a-okay
Find someone who thinks the same
And makes you feel okay

I was told " he was unmotivated and lazy "
But I'd be rather happy together than crazy
If you can choose who to love
Then take the money and run
Little girl, little girl
Remeber A = A
You dont need his love anyway
Oh, little girl

I was so confused
About my point of view
I didnt know the truth until i met you

And everything was okay
Everything was a-okay
Find someone who thinks the same and makes you feel okay
Every thing is okay

Everything is a-okay find someone who thinks the same and makes you feel
Okay

Overall Meaning

In Mars Argo's song "A-Okay", the lyrics touch on the theme of emotional neglect and the impact this has on a person's life. The first two lines of the song set the tone for this message, highlighting the harsh reality of growing up in a household where feelings are suppressed and emotion is disregarded. The singer is taught to value material wealth over emotional connections, with her mother urging her to marry for money and her father advising her to never rely on anybody. The lyrics suggest that this upbringing has left the singer feeling confused and unsure of her own perspective.

However, the chorus provides a hopeful message of resilience and finding happiness in spite of these circumstances. The singer declares that "everything is okay" and encourages others to find someone who shares their values and makes them feel okay. She challenges the idea that love should be based solely on financial gain or societal expectations, instead advocating for a connection based on genuine understanding and compatibility.

This song serves as a reflection on the ways in which our upbringing can shape our beliefs and values, but also reminds us that we have the power to choose our own path and find happiness on our own terms.

Think about the lyrics. Mars is talking about how she was confused about her point of view (because of her parents influence -- she was rich growing up because of her dad's money, they sheltered her from video games etc. until she left home) until "you" came along. MOST of her songs are about a change in her life, or love, or how things are different due to this one person. It's fairly obvious this person is Titanic. She says that Titanic influenced her life/POV until she was 'A-OK'. We obviously know that this is completely untrue, now, and he was literally grooming her and abusing her and putting her under mental stress... My idea is that Mars was fairly easy to manipulate to his whims, and she came out on the other side incredibly damaged after that... I feel so bad for her. I hope that one day, she'll actually be A-Okay.
