Major spoiler about Yotsuyu, i just need to get this off my chest.

This is what i think of Yotsuyu,
It is common knowledge the WOL has fell countless primals and Asahi showing up before she was about to kill herself gave her a chance to play along with him, she knew she is going to be defeated by the WOL, which will provide the opportunity for Asahi to get careless so she can kill him and get the vengeance she wanted so badly. Her acting all evil just before the last fight was just part of her self destructive plan to goat the WOL into defeating her

Yotsuyu's true nature is a kind hearted person, this is evident when she lost all her memories. She even wanted to kill herself when she regained her memories realizing she doesn't deserve kindness for her evil acts.

Her evil deeds stems from an unfortunate product surrounding her upbringing and circumstances. She is only evil because she was seething with hatred and wanting vengeance but not getting it. Years of mistreatment has turn her into a spiteful witch that just wants the world to burn at how harshly it treated her. At the end of her short life at least she finally experienced kindness towards her and understand what it feels like to have someone who actually cares for her.

Yotsuyu is a really well written character, in a bittersweet story.

not to dump on your interpretation of it, but the male singing is definitely not Goesetsu - it's her oppressors. If you look at the official post for the song, it sheds more light on the meaning of the male vocalist's lines. There was a very nice post on it with translations a while back.

Westward lies bleed t'ward the east.
西の虚栄が 東へと流れ込む
(The vanity of the west flows into the east.)

Wayward daughter, step into the night
価値なき娘よ 夜闇へと踏み入れたまえ
(Worthless daughter, you shall step into the darkness of the night.)

Restless eyes, blind to the beast
瞑れぬその目も 堕ちた己を映しはしまい
(Restless though those eyes may be, they cannot see how far the self has fallen.)

Barren waters yield unto the tide
無力な露は 流れに従うしかないのだよ――
(Powerless dew, you cannot help but obey the tides.)

Keeping in mind that "tsuyu" means "dew" in Japanese.

@Xelemich

According to the songwriter, the Japanese portion of the lyrics represent the voice of she who has become Tsukuyomi, while the English portion features the voices of those who have restrained her (represented with the fiercer tone in the male chorus).

Throughout the entire song, the structure of the song goes back and forth between the two voices singing to one another.

In a story of revolution and liberation, she also fought to try and release herself, which was included as the final line of the song.

We hope you enjoyed this insight into the storytelling of Stormblood through song! Perhaps using these lyrics, we can all better understand the perspective of this wayward daughter of Doma.

Until next time!

Even though Gosetsu cried out and questioned it, them surviving the castle collapse gave Yotsuyu the chance to experience kindness for once in her life before she died. I like how part of the fight showed that. Gosetsu MVP.

@TheOnlyLonelyBoy

I finished Stormblood not too long ago. I feel like the kami spared the both of them, knowing how much blood was on both of their hands, just so when the time came they would at least have each other in the afterlife. A taste of happiness to prepare for eternity.

@CrashB111

@@TheOnlyLonelyBoy Well their paring wasn't a romantic one, Gosetsu is like 3 times her age. It was more like the grand daughter he never got to have because he spent his life in dutiful service to his lord.

@noblewolf8232

@@TheOnlyLonelyBoy well said. :'(

@UmatsuObossa

She KNEW she would die by the second half of the fight and embraced it, to me that was the moment her redemption was sealed, because in that moment she chose suicide by WoL over vengeance...though still managed to get it right at the end.

@justinlee790

@@TheOnlyLonelyBoy I don't really think the kami had anything to do with it. That is, I don't think the "Kami" even exist, just like the Twelve. Some beings worshiped as Kami are just Auspices like Seiryu, other beings worshiped as Kami are Primals like Susano. It's just a word that Easterners apply to beings they don't understand the nature of.

That they both survived may have been fate, but I don't think any higher powers consciously intended what happened to them.

@Guy-9

I like how even though she would never admit it, she subconsciously knows being with Gosetsu was the best thing that ever happened to her.

@rajabuta

I think she admitted it. She just couldn't accepted it. She just couldn't forgive herself after all she did. Hence, suicide by WoL

@Zsaver3

@@rajabuta She definitely admitted it. In the very last line, while it's not spoken directly in words. "I hope the fruit... was as sweet as he remembered"

@mark0183

@@Zsaver3Exactly she wanted to die as tsuyu at the end 😔
