Matthew was born in Fort Ord, California, U.S. He was educated at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and the Orange County High School of the Arts. He made his musical theater debut on Broadway in the musical version of Footloose, followed by a revival of the Rocky Horror Show in 1999.
His big break came when he landed the role of Link Larkin in the Broadway production of John Waters' Hairspray. After performing in the role for some time, he started working in television, guest starring on shows such as "Hack" and "Sex and the City". He also had small roles in films such as Marci X, Encino Man, Primary Colors, and Simply Funk. He followed up by performing the role of Sir Harry in the ABC-TV production of Once Upon a Mattress, starring Tracey Ullman and Carol Burnett.
Morrison recently changed gears, playing the role of Fabrizio Nacarelli in Adam Guettel's The Light in the Piazza. He was nominated for a Tony Award for his performance. He left the show September 1, 2005.
Morrison joined the cast of the CBS soap opera As the World Turns as Adam Munson on October 24, 2006, but left abruptly soon after due to a "scheduling conflict," last airing on the soap on November 27.
Morrison appeared in a benefit performance celebrating Andrew Lippa, and the 25th Anniversary of the performing troupe 'The Kids Next Door' at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa in December 2006. The performance benefited The California Conservatory of the Arts, a non-profit arts education organization focusing on pre-professional training for young students, grades six through twelve, in Orange County.
He earned a Drama Desk Nomination for his role in the Off Broadway show 10 Million Miles which ran at the Atlantic Theater Company in 2007. That same year he appeared in two films: Dan in Real Life and Music and Lyrics.
He recently finished starring in the Lincoln Center production of South Pacific as Lt. Cable. After leaving "South Pacific," Morrison was cast as "Will Schuester" in the FOX television series Glee, which debuted on May 19, 2009. His role is that of a high school Spanish teacher who takes on the role of restoring the school's glee club to its former glory. The show has been a commercial and critical success, garnering good ratings as well as a Golden Globe nomination for Morrison (Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series - Musical Or Comedy).

Yeah, she's a triflin' friend indeed
Ooh she's a gold digger, way over time
That digs on me
(She give me money)
Now I ain't sayin' she a gold digger
(When I'm in need)
(She give me money)
Now I ain't sayin' she a gold digger
(When I'm in need)
But she ain't messin' wit no broke, broke
(I gotta leave)
Get down girl, go 'head get down
(I gotta leave)
Get down girl, go 'head get down
(I gotta leave)
Get down girl, go 'head get down
(I gotta leave)
Get down girl, go 'head
(She give me money)
Cutie da bomb
Met her at a beauty salon
(When I'm in need)
With a baby Louis Vuitton
Under her under arm
(She give me money)
She said I can tell you rock
I can tell by ya charm
(When I'm in need)
Far as girls you got a flock
I can tell by ya charm and ya arm
(I gotta leave)
But I'm lookin' for the one
Have you seen her?
(I gotta leave)
(No we ain't seen her!)
(She give me money)
Now I ain't sayin' she a gold digger
(When I'm in need)
But she ain't messin' wit no broke, broke
(She give me money)
Now I ain't sayin' she a gold digger
(When I'm in need)
But she ain't messin' with no broke, broke
(I gotta leave)
Get down girl, go 'head get down
(I gotta leave)
Get down girl, go 'head get down
(I gotta leave)
Get down girl, go 'head get down
(I gotta leave)
Get down girl, go 'head
(She give me money)
18 years, 18 years
(When I'm in need)
She got one of yo kids, got you for 18 years
(She give me money)
I know somebody payin' child support for one of his kids
(When I'm in need)
His baby momma's car crib is bigger than his
(I gotta leave)
You will see him on TV, any given Sunday
(I gotta leave)
Win the Superbowl and drive off in a Hummer
(I gotta leave)
She was supposed to buy ya shorty Tyco with your money
(I gotta leave)

(She give me money)
She walkin' around lookin' like Michael with your money
(When I'm in need)

The song "Gold Digger" by Matthew Morrison is an upbeat tune with an amusing take on relationships. The lyrics describe a woman who takes advantage of her partner financially and is only interested in his money. The song begins with the singer acknowledging that the woman he is involved with is not a loyal friend, and describes how she extracts money from him when he is in need. The chorus repeats the phrase "she ain't messin' wit no broke, broke" to make it clear that she's only interested in wealthy men. The song then goes on to describe how the woman uses the singer's money to live a lavish life, buying expensive designer accessories like Louis Vuitton bags and getting lipo from a doctor. The second part of the song emphasizes the need for a prenuptial agreement for men to protect themselves from such situations.
Overall, the song takes a lighthearted approach to a serious issue and pokes fun at the idea of a woman who only wants a man for his money. It highlights the importance of being cautious about the people we allow into our lives.
