Elles sont le fruit de mes passions
Alors je guette à l'horizon
Ce bel oiseau de raison
Oh, jolie colombe
S'il-te-plaît, ne pars pas
Je me bats mais succombe
Quand est-ce que je saurai
(Aide-moi, aide-moi)
Comment me contrôler?
(Aide-moi, aide-moi
"Tu n'es pas très habile"
(Aide-moi, aide-moi)
"Je ne bougerai pas d'un cil"
(Aide-moi, aide-moi)
Je t'entends crier terrifiant
Il me voit pleurer enivrant
S'affirme en se montrant
M'affaiblit en me cachant
Haine qui m'encrasse
C'est la peine qui me terrasse
Je cherchais la libération
Il m'a infligé la damnation
The lyrics of Matthieu Mendès's song "Obsession" convey the struggle of being trapped in one's own thoughts and emotions. The singer describes themselves as a slave to their thoughts, which are the product of their passions. They constantly keep a watchful eye on the horizon, hoping to find a sense of reason or clarity. The metaphor of the "beautiful bird of reason" represents the elusive state of mind they long for.
The singer pleads with a "pretty dove" not to leave, acknowledging their constant battle but ultimately succumbing to their lack of self-control. The lyrics reflect a desperate plea for help and guidance, as the singer yearns to understand how to regain control over their thoughts and emotions. They feel ineffective and clumsy, unable to muster the strength to resist the power their thoughts hold over them.
The second verse further explores the singer's internal struggle, as they hear terrifying screams and see themselves crying, causing them to feel weakened and hidden. They are weighed down by the hatred and pain that surround them, feeling overwhelmed and defeated. Their quest for liberation has led to their own damnation or being trapped in this obsessive state.
Overall, "Obsession" is a profound expression of the internal battles we all face when our thoughts and emotions consume us, leaving us feeling helpless and seeking guidance to regain control.
