Restoration
Maurette Brown Clark Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
If I never Lost my place?
What would I know about His mercy
If I hadn't gotten out of grace?
Restoration has finally come
Been restored back to my place in God
Restoration has finally come
Been restored back to my place in God
Restore me.
Restore to me the joy
Listen, restoration has finally come
Been restored back to my place in God
Ooooh, restoration has finally come
Mmmm, been rstored back to my place in God
Oh, what would I know about being restored
If I never lost my place?
What would I know about His mercy
If I hadn't gotten out of grace?
Restoration has finally come
Been restored back to my place in God
Restoration has finally come
Been restored back to my place in God
It sort of reminds me of the prodigal son. After his riotous living, all the evil he had done. Yet when he returned,
His father received him home. Gave him a ring of gold, put him on a robe. Killed the fatted calf, gave him
Something he never, ever had.
Oh, what would I know about being restored
If I never lost my place?
What would I know about His mercy
If I hadn't gotten out of grace?
Yes it reminds me of the prodigal son
After his riotous living,
All the evil he had done
Yet when he returned, his
Father received him home
Gave him a ring of gold,
Put him on a robe. Killed the fatted calf,
Gave him something
He never, ever had.
Restore the joy of my salvation.
Give me back my consecration.
Restore the life that I once knew
I'm giving my life back to you
Restore me.
Restore the joy
The lyrics of Maurette Brown Clark's song Restoration revolve around the theme of being restored, specifically in terms of one's spiritual journey. The opening lines, "What would I know about being restored if I never lost my place? What would I know about His mercy if I hadn't gotten out of grace?" set the tone for the rest of the song. The lyrics suggest that restoration can only be truly appreciated and understood if one has experienced loss and fallen out of grace at some point in their life. The chorus emphasizes the joy and relief that come with being restored back to one's place in God.
The song draws parallels to the parable of the prodigal son, who squandered his inheritance and returned to his father's house seeking forgiveness and a chance to start anew. The reference to the prodigal son reminds listeners that restoration is possible regardless of how far one has strayed from their path, and that God's mercy and forgiveness are always available to those who seek them.
