Horizons
May Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If you can't take me somewhere
Where things are always true
Build me a false horizon
Where the skies are blue
If I'm too far out of reach
Can you still grab my soul
If I am cut to pieces
Can you still, make me whole
And if i run in circles
Will you still wait for me
If ever you should catch me
Never set me free
If you can't take me somewhere
Where things are always true
Build me a false horizon
Where the skies are blue
Though I may not see the stars
I'm fooled by a false horizon's
Take a deep breath as I turn to you, and fall
If I'm too far away
Will you still hear me cry
How will you find me, find me
To wipe them from my eyes
I panic
And I'm frantic
When I'm taken by the sadness
Will you still, come to calm me
And take away this madness
If you can't take me somewhere
Where things are always true
Build me a false horizon
Where the skies are blue
Though I may not see the stars
I'm fooled by a false horizon's
Take a deep breath as I turn to you, and fall
Take me to a place
A slow and easy space
Where all the emotions
Fall in line
And love you've shown to me
That love has set me free
From the demons
In my mind
If you can't take me somewhere
Where things are always true
Build me a false horizon
Where the skies are blue
Though I may not see the stars

I'm fooled by a false horizon's
Take a deep breath as I turn to you, and fall

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of May's song "Horizons" depict a longing for an idealized version of reality. The singer yearns for a place where things are always true, a place where they can find solace and escape from the harshness of the real world. They ask for a false horizon to be built, where the skies are perpetually blue, even if they can't be taken to a place where truth and authenticity exist.

The lyrics explore themes of distance and disconnection. The singer questions whether their soul can still be reached even if they feel out of reach and fragmented. They ponder if someone will continue to wait for them even if they keep running in circles, and if there will be a safety net to catch them if they're ever caught. It reflects a sense of insecurity and fear of being abandoned, even in a world that may offer false comfort.

The chorus emphasizes the singer's willingness to be deceived by the false horizon. They acknowledge that they may not see the truth or the reality clearly, but they find solace in the illusion. The lines "Take a deep breath as I turn to you, and fall" suggest a surrender to the false horizon, finding refuge in its illusions despite the potential consequences.

Overall, "Horizons" is a song that delves into the desire for escapism and the struggle to find a safe place, even if it means being deceived by false realities.

Oh wow, when Brian May of Queen releases a catchy, classic song to mark the Ultima Thule flyby at a time when I wasn't sure he wasn't dead, it's nerdgasm time! :D As Cryzel Jane Bobiles here put it:

"When you're a rockstar but also an astrophysicist."

And that's no joke. He's been a "science team collaborator" with the New Horizons mission so does know whereof he sings. He holds a PhD in astrophysics from Imperial College London for work begun in '71 and completed at last in 2007. At age 71, he even looks like Isaac Newton now his curly rockstar mane has turned gloss grey.

I can't help thinking of a line that applies to the man and space probe both: "Old rockers never die. They just tour forever and ever and ever..."

Coolest thing I've heard so far in 2019 🎸👨‍🎤🚀💫

Lyrics: New horizons to explore
New horizons no one's ever seen before
Limitless wonders in a never-ending sky
We may never, never reach them
That's why we have to try
New horizons to take our breath away
New horizons getting closer every day
Somewhere in the distance, a wonder will appear
One day New Horizons will be very, very near
That's why we're here
Tonight the hand of man reaches out
To throw light on how life came about
Computer is reckoning an all-time high
The future is beckoning onward and onward we fly
New horizons a dream coming true
New horizons that will change our point of view
The fruits of wishful thinking we taste them for real
We're off to new horizons so hold on to the wheel
That's how we feel
New horizons every day
The voice of Dr. Stephen Hawking: "New Horizons"
New horizons
New horizons every day
Ooh

@MrBockBaGock

Brian's look has gradually morphed into Isaac Newton.

@okaka-sanfilmeedition8971

MrBockBaGock He is Newton now ❤️

@pippapink6431

He is far better than him. Brian May speaks out for the most unfortunate ones on this planet. Brian May is an animal rights activist. And with very good result! That is why I love him even more. A lot of good because he stands up for animals!

@davemullins6999

They are both physics geniuses --- but I never saw Newton play a bad ass guitar riff --- so Brian wins!
