2. A 70s San Francisco, USA soul band, featuring Frankie Beverly (aka Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly). Soul / quiet storm band Maze was established in San Francisco in the early 1970's. The band can more or less be considered as the project of former The Butlers, and later Raw Soul, member Frankie Beverly; being songwriter, producer, arranger, singer, keyboardist and guitarist.
Frankie Beverly's smooth, distinct voice is instantly recognized, and Maze's laid-back, bass driven musical arrangements differ a lot from other soul acts. Their signature sound is especially vivid on the classic "Live in New Orleans."
Maze signed a contract with Capitol Records in 1976, and released their debut LP, "Maze featuring Frankie Beverly", in 1977. They had great success with the debut and the following albums "Golden Time of Day" (1978), "Inspiration" (1979) and "Joy and Pain" (1980).
Their most acclaimed recording is "Live in New Orleans" (three quarters of which was recorded at the Saenger Theatre November 14-15, 1980). By now the band had a reputation as one of the best live acts in American soul music, also enjoying a great following in United Kingdom. In 1989, they released the hit album "Silky Soul", the excellent "Back to Basics" album in 1993, and a live recording at London's Hammersmith Odeon in 1994. In October 2005 Maze finished a U.S. tour.

I really had to fade away
Fast train, my brain will explode
I'll never ever be the same
Few strangers, no danger
Freedom smells like there's no questions
Right now, I cry for the last time
Do you know how it feels to run and yet staying the same
Do you know how it feels to fight for what's already lost
How we did, I don't want more than I can give
I laughed, I cried, I was dancing
In the rain for you
Your face, so strange, no change
Like I'm not in front of you
Our bodies understood
But our souls spoke way different languages
Right now I smile for the first time
Do you know how it feels to run and yet staying the same
You chase what you can't catch at all
Do you know how it feels to fight for what's already lost
How we did, I don't want more than I can give
And I can't live in love that doesn't know how to fly
And I can't see the stars where there is no sky
Why the lies
Do you know how it feels to run and yet staying the same
You chase what you can't catch at all
Do you know how it feels to fight for what's already lost
How we did, I don't want more than I can give
Do you know how it feels to run and yet staying the same
You chase what you can't catch at all
Do you know how it feels to fight for what's already lost
How we did, I don't want more than I can give
The lyrics to the song "Can" by Maze seem to be about letting go and moving on from a toxic relationship. The opening lines suggest that the singer has decided to break free from the chains of this relationship and take off on a "fast train" to elsewhere. They are tired of playing games and assigning blame for what has gone wrong in their relationship. The chorus asks whether the listener knows what it feels like to try and chase something you cannot catch or fight for something already lost, indicating that the singer has been through this experience and does not want to repeat it.
The second verse suggests that the singer and their partner are physically attracted to each other but that they do not speak the same language on a deeper level. The use of the words "strange" and "no change" indicate that the partner has not grown or changed during the course of their relationship. The singer notes that while their bodies were attracted to each other, their souls were not in tune. The final lines seem to suggest that the singer is moving on and is no longer willing to live with a love that cannot fly, that is holding them down, and with lies.
Overall, "Can" seems to be a song about the singer's journey towards finding themselves and becoming independent from a toxic relationship. The lyrics convey an understanding of the challenging emotional journey that comes with leaving behind someone you've loved, yet at the same time, suggest that it is necessary for self-growth and emotional healing.

I do have to give you credit, this video was brilliant timing with these growing questions about the nature of intelligence and problem solving.
"Solving a maze" appears to be a lot of work, a huge number of decisions that all must be made correctly, and at each decision point there may be a varying amount of information available about the rest of the maze. You can analyze the water in the maze this way, at this junction there is a pocket of air pressure preventing it from travelling out that way, at this junction it will pool until it overflows, etc, and talk about how it "solved" the challenge - but no "decisions" were made, it didnt "think".
i'm starting to wonder if a valid definition for life could be something wayyy more generic than we ever thought, like "A system that has the capability to act in an unexpected way in order to achieve a desired goal."
Which would mean a) AI is already alive, and b) its ungovernable once it has any kind of reward system, at least in terms of the alignment problem.
FWIW the "cheat" my statement relies on is that a "desired goal" implies that the agent has some element of self determination, which means that's the more atomic component here, and the true quandary.

@Shining Darknessfor a vertical maze like the video, the water follows gravity, except for air pockets.
For a horizontal maze, the water will seek to be level across the entire maze, and leave through the entrance and exits of the maze. All the water would be flowing to one of those.
Now for a horizontal maze that spans several floors.... that's where it get's fun!
When you have a mix of both, The lower floors except for air pockets fill up first, then the upper floors find a level until reaching the entrance and exit of the maze.
If the maze entrance was on the lower level, and the exit on an upper level..... hmmm, I think the trick breaks.
Now you've also got to fill the maze with water faster than the entrance can drain it.
It's Like those algebra problems:
A funnel of 10 gallons is being filled with 2 liters of water per minute, and draining at 1.2 liters per minute, how long until the funnel is "full" ?

I'm adding this because I have not seen anyone suggest it! A way to recreate the original simulation would be to have an air-tight maze with two valves. One that pulls a vacuum on the empty maze and another that introduces water after the vacuum has been pulled and the other valve to the vacuum pump is turned off. In a perfect vacuum it would fill all the empty area with water.
