As a young adult, Samon was in an army band and became known for singing humorous songs. According to LinDa Saphan, Samon and Yol Aularong "were the only singers and songwriters who were making social commentary through their songs." Samon in particular "used humour to draw attention to social conventions around relationships."
According to the 2015 documentary Don't Think I've Forgotten, he was caught playing music at a work camp during the Khmer Rouge regime. He was told to stop, and when caught a second time, he was taken away and imprisoned or executed.
Samon collaborated with several contemporary artists, such as Pan Ron, Sinn Sisamouth and several duets with So Savoeun. Decades later, he became better known to Western audiences after appearing on compilations of Cambodian psychedelic and garage rock music, such as the influential Cambodian Rocks (1996), Cambodian Cassette Archives: Khmer Folk & Pop Music (2004), and Groove Club Vol. 2: Cambodia Rock Spectacular! (2010).

These are my lyrics to the song. They’re not literal translations of the actual lyrics, but they tell the same story in English in a way that fits the rhyming scheme:
My parents tried to have a marriage arranged.
Of course it’s quite strange, I have not met the bride.
Too scared to sit next to her, I tried to hide.
Seeing that I’m shy, in-laws began to speak:
Your looks and your posture, please stand up and turn.
How much do you earn, what are your skills in life?
Did not have an answer, skipped school all the time.
Though they were kind enough to hear me out.
My efforts did not stop me seen like an ass.
Knocked and broke a glass, he dad laughed “ha ha”.
I’m shy enough, how can this happen to me?
Then came time for dinner, yet another dismay.
The dishes displayed in ways that serve the eye.
Though starving and tempted, I acted polite.
Too posh and too shy, I could not join in.
