After the commercial success of Bat Out of Hell and Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell, and earning a Grammy Award for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance for the song "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)", Meat Loaf nevertheless experienced some difficulty establishing a steady career within the United States. The key to this success was his popularity in Europe, especially in the United Kingdom and Ireland. He received the 1994 Brit Award in the United Kingdom for best-selling album and single. He appeared in the 1997 film Spice World and he ranked 23rd for the number of weeks spent on the UK charts in 2006. He ranks 96th on VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock". Meat Loaf appeared in over 50 films and television shows, sometimes as himself or as characters resembling his stage persona. His film roles include Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) and Robert Paulsen in Fight Club (1999). His early stage work included dual roles in the original Broadway cast of The Rocky Horror Show. He also appeared in the musical Hair, both on and Off-Broadway.

How you been, feelin' better?
Never lookin', but you're hearin',
Never speakin', but you're feeling
All the silence, and it's wounding,
You're not healing, just concealing
Play the game, play the game
[Chorus]
Oh brother to brother, all the blood runs red
Don't roll over, don't play dead
We're all livin' on the razor's edge
Oh brother to brother, all the blood runs ruby red
We're all victims of the razor's edge
All the rules don't mean a thing,
They're wasting time,
The mem'ries sting
Keep your image, plant that smile,
Answer questions, don't let on
Make up stories all put on,
That's your life, oh,
Your life is gone
[Chorus]
You see you're losing, yet you still try
The game just a watches your life go by
You're playin' well,
You're playin' why?
Oh, play the game
You see you're losing, yet you still try
The game just a'watches your life go by
You're playin' well,
Oh you're playin' the game
[Chorus]
In Meat Loaf's "Razor's Edge," the singer is addressing someone who has been distant, not responding to phone calls or letters. The listener seems to be troubled or in pain, but is keeping their feelings to themselves. The singer encourages them to open up and share their struggles. The title, "Razor's Edge," suggests a precarious situation where the slightest slip could lead to disaster. The chorus emphasizes the common bond between people, noting that everyone is fighting their own battles and facing their own dangers.
The lyrics describe the loneliness and pain of someone who has closed themselves off from the world. They are facing their troubles alone, but the singer urges them to reach out and connect with others. The repeated refrain to "play the game" implies that life is a dangerous game where the odds are stacked against you. The singer encourages the listener to play the game with courage and skill, even though the outcome is uncertain.
The song addresses themes of isolation, mental health, and the fragility of human life. Meat Loaf's powerful voice conveys the urgency of the message, encouraging listeners to connect with others and be courageous in the face of danger.

call me weird but Meat's 80's albums are my favorites! Midnight at the Lost and Found is my all time favorite album-lots of people hate the 80's songs-i just adore them!
John Madsen
I completely agree, and maybe i am weird because i mostly listen to 80's music and also mostly watch 80's movies. I have a hard time relating to the last 25 years of entertainment (i am born in 1970).
