The lyrics to Medulla's song "Gasolina Gás e Perigo" describe the volatile and destructive nature of warfare, particularly through the lens of modern warfare and the use of explosives. The opening line, "Era bomba relógio" (it was a time bomb), sets the ominous tone for the rest of the lyrics. The following lines describe the act of dropping fragmentation bombs on Afghanistan, which scatter deadly seeds upon impact. The repetition of "era a bomba relógio" emphasizes the inevitability of violence in the context of war.
The lyrics also touch upon the notion of glory and how it can be seen as fleeting and ultimately meaningless in the face of violence and death. The line "um só não tem gloria" (only one does not have glory) could refer to the individual who is carrying out the act of violence, or it could speak to the fact that, ultimately, no one "wins" in war. The lines "o gosto cinza do sangue, a terra amarga na língua do grande profeta" (the gray taste of blood, the bitter land on the tongue of the great prophet) further emphasize the destructive consequences of violence and war.
The final repetition of "Pela espada viverás, morrerás" (by the sword you will live and die) encapsulates the central theme of the lyrics - that violence and warfare are intrinsically linked, and that no one emerges unscathed. The use of the word "espada" (sword) adds a historical context to the lyrics, while also metaphorically representing the tools of modern warfare, such as explosives and guns.
