À Tout le Monde
Megadeth feat. Christina Scabbia Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't remember where I was
I realized life was a game
The more seriously I took things
The harder the rules became
I had no idea what it'd cost
My life passed before my eyes
I found out how little I accomplished
All my plans denied

So as you read this, know my friends
I'd love to stay with you all
Please smile when you think of me
My body's gone, that's all

À tout le monde
À tous mes amis
Je vous aime
Je dois partir
These are the last words
I'll ever speak
And they'll set me free

If my heart was still alive
I know it would surely break
And my memories left with you
There's nothing more to say
Moving on is a simple thing
What it leaves behind is hard
You know the sleeping feel no more pain
And living all are scarred

À tout le monde
À tous mes amis
Je vous aime
Je dois partir
These are the last words
I'll ever speak
And they'll set me free

So as you read this
Know my friends
I'd love to stay with you all (you all)
Please smile, smile when you think about me
My body's gone that's all

À tout le monde
À tous mes amis
Je vous aime
Je dois partir
These are the last words
I'll ever speak
And they'll set me free

À tout le monde
À tous mes amis
Je vous aime
Je dois partir
These are the last words
I'll ever speak
And they'll set me free

These are the last words

I'll ever speak
And they'll set me free

Overall Meaning

"A Tout Le Monde" by Megadeth is a song about the concept of death and how living is a game we all have to play. The singer of the song reflects on his life and how he took it too seriously, causing the rules of the game to become harder as time went on. He's telling his friends to smile and remember him after he dies, and that moving on is a simple thing but leaving behind everything that mattered is hard.

The lyrics show a poignant acceptance of death, but not in a nihilistic sense. Instead, the singer accepts that death is inevitable and that they must now move on to the next phase of their existence. The song is a reminder that life is short and that we should cherish every moment, treating the people we love with kindness and respect.

Interestingly, the song was originally written in French by Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine and then translated into English. Mustaine has said that the lyrics were inspired by his experiences on tour, where he often felt homesick and longed to be with his loved ones. The song has become one of the most popular in the Megadeth catalog, and it remains a staple of the band's live shows to this day.

When I was fighting mental health at my worst I would listen to this song while working out and dance with weights.

Megadeath is one of those bands that has helped me get through some darker times in my life. I Dance my energy instead of bottling it up. It works and I hope i can encourage anyone to just dance out overloaded energy while the celebrate life and dance in good energy.

I challenge any of you. Just hold and workout with two 15lb kettlebells for the whole song. It may break you but if you dance you might go all the way. Good luck to you all

Love this song.

Thank you

My dad and I used to argue which is the better version of this song, new or old. He loved the old version and I preferred the new. After losing him to cancer a couple years ago, I listen to them both regularly and they are both incredible in their own right. The original version is more melancholy and I listen to it when I want to remember him. This version makes me want to get out there and live for him.

@MikeSmith-lc2np

from my heart I'm truly sorry for your loss. I lost my dad. this song is beautiful in both versions.

@jackfreer9340

Rest in peace to your dad dude. This song is amazing in both versions and i feel fhe same way you do to this song but to with my best friend. He died and loved the nev version and i remember saying the old was better all the time and the old is more of an emotional version while this makes you feel the same as the old version only more happy and instead of upsetting it makes you feel good and remember loved ones so it helps a lot. Its an amazing song and im sorry to hear about your dad bro. Stay strong and headbang on

@jaytyler5741

The old version is better in my opinion. Sorry to hear your Dad passed. My Dad hates Metal, but he did buy me my first electric guitar in 1993. I still haven't hit national rockstardom. But, I haven't given up and I won't. My Dad is still kicking and I hope he will be around to see what I'm about to pull off. I'm not too old to do it. I still get asked for ID for a beer. When not in my home town. I pull off my hat and show them I'm going bald eagle and have a med marijuana card. Is that enough or do you really need to see my DL? Bahahahahahahahhahaa

@axchisler

That's beautiful man. I lost my dad to cancer as well but he was way to old to get into Megadeth. I prefer the original cuz it's what I grew up with, but the newer version is starting to grow on me.

Love the older version, but I can't help coming back to this version once in a while. I absolutely love the harmonies with the girl. She has a very beautiful voice. The two of their voices sound fantastic together.

@xxxthoughtlessxxx

Cristina Scabbia has a badass set of pipes. ✊🏼

@lewislee3392

This version is most certainly more upbeat with a more metal sound to it. However you can’t really compare as both songs have a different feel; the original has a deeper solitude tone which has an ease and comfort feel and the later version has a hard hitting feel that gives an exhilarating “grab life by the balls “ and live it feel. Both are fantastic versions to me.

@cjbecker1683

Considering I have cassette tapes of Megadeth & lots of Cd's buried somewhere this is my first time hearing this version. The guitar sound is super crisp & the extra vocals aren't bad either 👍
