Day Dreaming
Mel Tormé Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Daydreaming, just daydreaming
Well, it's kind of fun for one who's all alone
Daydreaming, just daydreaming
Helps me find the joy, the boy I call my own
Night comes on, it's true I'm blue
My heart is with the sun
Dawn comes through, I glow
Although I know that lovers I've had none
Daydreaming, just daydreaming
Please don't mind if I just sigh and stay
Stay dreaming, daydreaming
Maybe small but it's all I've known

Lovers, I've had none
Daydreaming, just daydreaming
Please don't mind if I just sigh and stay

Stay dreaming, daydreaming
Maybe small but it's all I've known

Overall Meaning

In Mel Tormé's song "Day Dreaming," the singer reveals the joy and comfort they find in daydreaming, especially when they are alone. Daydreaming becomes a source of solace and escape, allowing them to create a world where they can find happiness and a love of their own. The lyrics convey a sense of longing and yearning for a romantic partner, as the singer admits to feeling blue when the night comes and their heart remains unfulfilled.

Despite their lack of actual lovers, the singer finds solace in daydreaming and remains hopeful for the future. They express a sense of contentment in their daydreaming state, where they can imagine a love story and find joy in their own imagination. The repeated phrase "Daydreaming, just daydreaming" emphasizes the simplicity and importance of this activity in the singer's life.

The lyrics also highlight the contrast between day and night, suggesting that while the darkness brings sadness, the dawn symbolizes a renewed hope and a glow of optimism. The final lines of the song, "Maybe small but it's all I've known," imply that daydreaming might be a small comfort, but it is the only source of love and happiness the singer has experienced.

The intro to this movie is so appropriately awkward.

The splits between the energy from two Corey's and the slow down from the mellow blue credits creates this annoying feeling. You have the energy building from the boys and the sudden drag from the credits. Much like the old man within a young man's body.
