Holy and Anointed One
MercyMe Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Holy and anointed One,
Jesus
Jesus, Jesus,
Holy and anointed One,
Jesus
Risen and exalted One,
Jesus
Jesus, Jesus,
Risen and exalted One,
Jesus
Your name is like honey on my lips,
Your Spirit like water to my soul,
Your word is a lamp unto my feet,
Jesus I love You, I love You
These lyrics are a beautiful expression of devotion to Jesus Christ. The repetition of his name is like a soothing chant, emphasizing his holiness and divine anointing. The use of the words "holy" and "anointed" evoke images of ancient kings and priests, chosen by God for a special purpose. By calling Jesus the "holy and anointed One," the song is affirming his divinity and his status as the chosen one of God.
The second half of the lyrics express the singer's personal love and gratitude for Jesus. His name is like honey on the lips, which is a biblical reference to the sweetness and pleasure of knowing God. The Spirit is like water to the soul, bringing nourishment and refreshment to the innermost parts of the self. The word of God is a lamp unto the feet, guiding the way and providing illumination in the darkness. All of these metaphors come together to express a deep and abiding love for Jesus Christ.
Overall, these lyrics are a powerful affirmation of faith and devotion. They remind us of the beauty and holiness of our Savior, and express our personal love and gratitude for all that he has done for us.
