You're to Blame
MercyMe Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But this is one I cannot claim even if I wanted to
There's something happening
There's something going on with me
And I think I like the view from where I'm standing
You are to blame
For anything
You are to blame
For this change
That has taken me by storm
There's one thing I am wondering
What exactly do you see that makes you wanna stay?
I don't deserve your attention
Why would you ever mention me?
Why you're treating me this way remains a mystery
You are to blame
For anything
That is good in my heart
You are to blame
For this change
That has taken me by storm
(You are to blame)
For anything
That is good in my heart
You are to blame
For this change
That has taken me by
And I feel like I can fly
Knowing I am yours
And knowing that you're mine
I cannot ask for more
You are to blame
For anything
That is good in my heart
You are to blame
For this change
That has taken me by storm
(You are to blame)
For anything
That is good in my heart
You are to blame
For this change
That has taken me by storm
That has taken me
That has taken me by storm
In "You're to Blame," MercyMe acknowledges that a shift has occurred within the singer, and while he's not quite sure what's happening, he knows that it's good. In traditional MercyMe fashion, they attribute this change to a higher power, namely, God. The singer is in awe of the positive transformation occurring within himself and gives credit to God for being responsible for anything good in his life. The singer is humbled that he's even worthy of attention from God, as he recognizes that he doesn't deserve it. Despite that, he feels like he can fly because he knows that he belongs to God and that God belongs to him. This song is a celebration of the transformative power of God and the gratitude that comes with it, filled with hope and gratitude in heavenly provisions.
