Messiah (UK band):
Formed in 1988 during London's acid house craze by college friends Ali Ghani and Mark Davies, Messiah's brand of rave techno encompasses the aggression and volume of punk and the diva vocals of house music. When Ghani and Davies met at an Iggy Pop concert, the two decided to purchase some electronic equipment and make music for fun; when musical chemistry became evident, they began to get into the English techno and rave scene. After the release of 1993's Temple of Dreams, their first full-length U.S. album, 21st Century Jesus, was released one year later. Messiah Meets Progenitor followed in 1998 and saw a fairly dramatic shift in style. The introduction of guitars into the mix pushed their sound more towards that of Jesus Jones, Pop Will Eat Itself or later Prodigy.
Messiah (Swiss metal band):
Messiah is a death/thrash metal band from Switzerland. The band is best known for their first two full-length albums, Hymn to Abramelin and Extreme Cold Weather. Messiah's debut album, Hymn to Abramelin, was released in 1986 through Chainsaw Murder Records. Their sophomore LP, titled Extreme Cold Weather, came out in 1987 and was re-issued on CD three years later by Nuclear Blast. The release also contained the band's debut album. The band then managed to sign to a German major metal label, Noise Records, which released their next album, Choir of Horrors, in 1991. Messiah released two more albums, Rotten Perish and Underground, through Noise, but disbanded in the mid-1990's.
After a long break Messiah reunited, first to perform a few secret shows in 2017, but then decided to write new material in 2018, and released a new album in September 2020. Since 2018 also, they are back on stage and play live again. Their newest album Christus Hypercubus is set to be released on March 1, 2024.
Condemned Cell
Messiah Lyrics

Eliminated my enemies and killed my wife
Nothing to lose, I'm condemned to death
Enjoy the prison, till my last breath
Either you kill or you will be killed, this was my sacred system
No possibility to live with these rules, I followed my wisdom
I have no regrets about my evil deeds, this was the way to exist
My fate is decided life or death
I whil away the time with games of chess
I wished for a better end not to wait for my execution
My name will be deleted this will be my termination
It's gruesome to wait for the unknown, I don't know my fate
Killing time and wait for mercy, that's what I hate
Living in fear and trepidation there's hope yet
I'm in fear of god, he has decided about my punishment
Many years passed all of these were past
Nothing has changed, every evening could be last
Apathy becomes apparent, I feel so brainless
I know for certain, I will die a natural death
The lyrics of Messiah's song Condemned Cell are a reflection of the life of a prisoner who is on death row. The singer of the song has been ruled all their life by the idea of murder and manslaughter, giving them power over their enemies and even leading them to kill their own wife. Being condemned to death, the singer has nothing left to lose, and they seem to have accepted their fate. They talk about enjoying their time in the prison until their last breath, playing games of chess, and reflecting on their past deeds.
The lyrics depict how the singer's life was dictated by a system that requires them to kill in order to survive. They believe that their actions were necessary to exist, and so they have no regrets about their past deeds. Even facing death, they still feel that their past actions were justified. The lyrics end with the singer accepting their fate, knowing that they will die a natural death, and that their name will be deleted, their existence erased. The song paints a somber picture of a life that was lived with the singular purpose of surviving, containing reflections on regret and acceptance in the face of an unavoidable end.
