Metro Boomin Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Every story need a superhero and a villain
Now, introducing
Metro motherfuckin' Boomin, nigga (Metro motherfuckin' Boomin, nigga)
Ah, yeah
They pray for the day that I lose it
But God gave me the power to use it
I glide through the rain and the fire
Take no days off, can't retire
Know you waited a while, but I'm on time
Oh, I'm on time, hey
Know you waited a while, but I'm on time
Oh, I'm on time, on time
Know you waited a while, but I'm on time
(Time, time)
(May have waited a while, but I'm on time)
(May have waited a while, but I'm on time)
You know what they say
If Young Metro don't trust you
Motherfucker, you better run
All the villains is grinnin', all my niggas is winnin'
Must I remind you one more time? Must I remind you niggas?
I gotta tell you niggas again
We gotta show them niggas again
We gotta-, we gotta-, hold on (pink)
I'm done
I am done apologizing, I am done being persecuted for my strength
You people should be thanking Christ that I am who and what I am, because you need me
You need me to save you, you do
I am the only one who possibly can
You're not the real heroes, I'm the real hero
In "On Time," Metro Boomin starts the song by introducing himself as the superhero to the villains. He explains how he is not new to this and how he managed to find success despite people waiting for him to fail. Boomin's use of superhero metaphors helps to portray himself as someone who is untouchable and has the power to overcome any obstacle. He refers to himself as the only true hero, who people need to save them.
The chorus of the song revolves around the wait and perseverance that Boomin has gone through in his career. He takes note of the way people have been waiting for him to fail, but he continues to succeed, and the wait was worth it. He also highlights his consistency in working hard by making sacrifices and pushing himself beyond his limits.
In the second half of the song, Boomin takes the opportunity to flex his success and reminds people that he is the one who calls the shots. He takes shots at his competitors and shows that he is not here to apologize for being great. The song is a reminder that despite the setbacks and doubts that one may encounter, persistence and hard work eventually pay off, and it's essential to remain focused.

My man really sampled "The Boys" with that Homelander speech. Just hearing that, and the fact that speech contradicts what makes a hero, is what makes this opener so good. And those strings.... *chef's kiss*.
