Mia was born in 1947 in Bagnara Calabra (province of Reggio Calabria, southern Italy), but soon she moved to Rome with her sister (Loredana Bertè) and her friend Renato Zero. Both of them would eventually become successful singers too.
She recorded her first records as Mimì Bertè, but she soon decided to change her name to the more appealing Mia Martini.
Her biggest hits were "Piccolo Uomo", which was recorded in several languages, "Almeno tu nell'universo", which is considered her masterpiece and has been covered by several famous Italian singers including Mina and Elisa, and "Minuetto" among many others.
She represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest twice: in 1977 with "Libera (song)" (13th out of 18), and in 1992 with "Rapsodia" (4th out of 23).
Her career ended tragically in 1995 when she was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her apartment at Cardano al Campo, near Milan.

e se le lacrime possono cadere dagli occhi, anche la luna può piangere!! questo brano finale è una sorta di allegoria...dopo pianti di delusione, rabbia, tristezza, nostalgia, distacco, rimorso, disperazione, ci sono anche i pianti donati agli altri, di chi aiuta gli altri sorridendo, ma piangendo di nascosto; l'argento ce scende dalla lunasono le lacrime di chi aiuta le persone più deboli!! altro brano pieno di saggezza!!

la parte musicale è meravigliosamente riuscita...una sorta di jam session tutta partenopea fatta con Gragnaiello, i fratelli Zurzolo e altri musicisti napoletani che lavorarono con lei...qui spera per i ragazzi delle periferie un futuro migliore fatto di felicità e sogni realizzati, l'argento che cade giù è un regalo che volentieri farebbe per levare i ragazzi dalla strada e dalla violenza...

L'argento e il colore che la luna piena dipinge su Napoli e i suoi figli, donandogli ricchezza , felicita` ed equilibrio ( pure il pazzo e` sano di mente ).Ovviamente si tratta di una ricchezza spirituale che la luna dona come una Dea, ma che un semplice temporale porta via....
