The group was formed in 1988 by singer, songwriter, and keyboard player Jascha Richter (b. 1963) alongside drummer Kare Wanscher (b. 1969), guitarist and producer Mikkel Lentz (b. 1968), and Soren Madsen (b. 1967) in Aarhus, Denmark. The group now consists of three members, with the rest parting ways with Madsen. The group started as a little cafe band, but they soon won the annual talent contest in Aarhus in July 1988. MLTR signed with one of the judges, JP Andersen, as their new manager, and the group got a recording deal with Medley Records, who later became a part of EMI.
MLTR's eponymous first album hit the top 5 of the album charts in both Denmark and Norway, selling tens of thousands of copies over and over again. Since that international debut in September 1991, with 'Michael Learns To Rock' being a sensation, the group has sold more than 12 million legal albums, and it has been performing ever since. Their song catalog continues to be very popular as well, with many singles sold online. Since 'Michael Learns To Rock' came out, they have released 'Colours' (1993), 'Played on Pepper' (1995), 'Nothing to Lose' (1997), 'Michael Learns to Rock - Greatest Hits' (1999), 'Blue Night' (2000), 'Take Me to Your Heart' / 'Michael Learns to Rock' (2004), 'The Best Of Michael Learns To Rock – Live' (2007), and 'Eternity' (2008).
MLTR is one of the most popular bands in their homeland. Thanks to social media such as YouTube and Facebook, MLTR's fan-base continues to grow worldwide. They're unusual for a European group in that they have strong popularity both in Asia (particularly China and India) as well as several Anglo-American nations.

Eternity
Michael Learns to Rock Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
They don't need to see you cry
I can't promise I will heal you
But if you want to I will try
I'll sing this somber serenade
The past is done
We've been betrayed
Someone said the truth will out
I believe without a doubt, in you
You were there for summer dreaming
And you gave me what I need
And I hope you find your freedom
For eternity...
For eternity
Yesterday when you were walking
We talked about your mum and dad
What they did that made you happy
What they did that made you sad
We sat and watched the sun go down
Picked a star before we lost the moon
Youth is wasted on the young
Before you know it's come and gone to soon
You were there for summer dreaming
And you gave me what I need
And I hope you find your freedom
For eternity...
For eternity
For eternity
I'll sing this somber serenade
The past is done
We've been betrayed
It's true
Youth is wasted on the young
Before you know it's come and gone to soon
You were there for summer dreaming
And you are a friend indeed
And I hope you find your freedom
For eternity
You were there for summer dreaming
And you are a friend indeed
And I know you'll find your freedom
Eventually
For eternity
For eternity
The song Eternity by Michael Learns to Rock is a touching ballad about the fleeting nature of time and the importance of friendship. The verse begins with the singer encouraging the listener to close their eyes and not to fear anyone or anything. The singer acknowledges that he may not be able to heal the listener, but he is willing to be there to support them. He proceeds to sing a "somber serenade" acknowledging that their past is done and that they have been betrayed, but he believes in them without a doubt.
The second verse shifts to a memory of a conversation the singer had with the listener. They talked about the listener's parents and the happy and sad moments they shared. The singer remembers watching the sunset with the listener and picking a star before the moon disappeared. The chorus repeats with the sentiment that the listener was there for summer dreaming and gave the singer what he needed. He hopes the listener finds their freedom for eternity.
The song's universal theme of time and the brevity of youth make it a touching tribute to the importance of friendship. The singer's offer to be there for the listener, even if he may not be able to heal them, is a poignant reminder of the importance of support and love during difficult times. The song's slow tempo and the singer's emotive delivery add to its emotional weight, making it a perfect reflection on the concept of eternity.
