Eyes of a Child
Michael Schenker Group Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't do this
Don't do that

It's all we ever hear
Love your neighbor
Love your foe
And don't fight with your peer
All's well if said and done
To use love and not a gun
Don't know if that's what you do

In God we trust
He will save us
Wise words that you use
When it comes down to it
You end up in a pit
And everything's confused

Like a child that's lost his toy
Creating war next door
That's how it all appears to me

We learn from you how it should be
It seems that war is all we have
It's all so sad
What will happen to me?

Give to the poor
Help out the weak
That's what we learn from you
Give it all back
Relinquish the greed
That's what you need to do

You create so many rules
End up locked up just like fools
You say that love will set us free

You've always taught us not to fight
And suddenly that's all you do
It's all so sad
How can we understand?

You are bewildered by the truth
The fear is closing in on you

It's all so sad
Will we loose everything?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Eyes of a Child" by Michael Schenker Group contain a criticism of the world we live in, where we are constantly being told what not to do or how to behave. The lyrics highlight the discrepancy between what we are taught to do or be, such as loving our neighbor and helping the weak, and what we actually end up doing, which is often the opposite. The song talks about how wars and conflicts arise because of petty things, even as trivial as a child losing a toy. It also points out the irony in preaching love, trust, and wise words, only to end up confused and trapped in a pit of despair.

The song's message is that the world needs to let go of greed, relinquish power struggles, and come together with love and compassion. The singer is asking for a better future where everyone can live in harmony without the fear of losing everything. The song invokes the innocence and purity of children to paint a picture of a peaceful world, a world without war or conflict, where everyone can find happiness.

Overall, the lyrics of "Eyes of a Child" convey a powerful message of hope and a plea for a better world that we can hand down to the next generation.

I think he will,I saw him in 2007(McAuley made a surprise appearence singing Lights Out,BTW),but towards the end of US tour he had management & personal problems & cancelled many shows & also in the UK & bad performances had bad critics, but so far He's back with the new album with Gary Barden,Chris Glenn & Ted Mckenna and he looks in good shape,he's touring Europe so my guess is he'll be in the States middle of next year & probably with a new album,I'm dying to see him with the new line up!
