1) MICHELLE is a fresh musical collective hailing from New York City. Weaving in and out of R&B, Pop, Jazz and Indie sounds, the group of six pays homage to these genres through 70s inspired basslines, driving drum beats, plush synths and enticing vocals. Having recently celebrated their first year on the scene as an ensemble, MICHELLE is already solidifying itself as a strong current in a new wave of emerging NYC staples. MICHELLE’s unique stylings are the result of fine-tuned production and arrangements by Julian Kaufman and Charlie Kilgore, with singers Jamee Lockard, Layla Ku, Sofia D’Angelo, and Emma Lee churning out illustrative lyrics and powerful harmonics. Written and recorded in Kaufman’s bedroom over the span of two weeks, their debut album “HEATWAVE” captures a compilation of sentimental moments – snapshots of youth through a New York summer, all immediately recognizable to those who’ve lived them (and those that have wished to).

Mess U made

The things that I do
When I'm out of this house
How I live my life
When I'm somebody else
Missin' my home
But God only knows how I feel, so alone
When I'm there
I can't, I don't, I won't cry anymore
(I can't cry, I won't cry, vry anymore)
No, no, no, I won't, I won't, I won't, I won't be yours
(I won't be, I won't be, I won't be yours)
Don't tell me, tell me, tell me, I've heard it before
This is the mess you made
Today is not your day
When you get like this
How could I just play along
And dismiss like this hasn't gone on for so long?
I admit, last summer vacation
I was a bitch
I thought we'd be better by now
Home is a circus
But just on the surface
I'm puttin' that family love back on the shelf
Home is a circus
I'm done feelin' worthless
I'm givin' it up 'cause
I can't, I don't, I won't cry anymore
(I can't cry, I won't cry, cry anymore)
No, I won't, I won't, I won't, I won't be yours
(I won't be, I won't be, I won't be yours)
Don't tell me, tell me, tell me, I've heard it before
No, no, look at the mess you made (mess you made)
Today is not your day
The lyrics of Michelle's song Mess U made convey feelings of sadness, loneliness, and frustration, as the singer reflects on her life outside of her home and the impact of the actions of someone she cares about. The opening lines suggest that she is living a double life, doing things outside of the house and being someone else, which is causing her to miss her home and feel alone. She then asserts herself in the chorus with the repeated phrases "I can't, I don't, I won't cry anymore" and "I won't be yours," indicating that she is not going to tolerate mistreatment or be held back by her emotions and past experiences.
The pre-chorus, "This is the mess you made/Today is not your day/When you get like this/How could I just play along/And dismiss like this hasn't gone on for so long?", highlights the impact of the other person's behaviour on her life and suggests that she is not willing to overlook it anymore. She admits to being a "bitch" in the past, suggesting that she has also contributed to the problems in the relationship, but she had hoped that things would have improved by now. She then concludes with the lines "Home is a circus/But just on the surface/I'm puttin' that family love back on the shelf/Home is a circus/I'm done feelin' worthless/I'm givin' it up 'cause," indicating that she is putting the problems aside and prioritizing herself.

I remember hearing this in the car and when I heard the scream I immediately went back to the beginning so I could hone in on the emotion and words that brought it forth. I love this track immensely thank you MICHELLE for bearing such a candid track.
