Bewildered
Mickey & Sylvia Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

He's a fool and don't I know it
But a fool can have his charms
I'm in love and don't I show it
Like a Babe in arms

Love's the same old sad sensation
Lately I've not slept a wink
Since this half-pint imitation
Put me on the blink

I'm wild again, begiled again
A simpering, whimpering child again
Bewitched, bothered and bewildered
Am I

Could'nt sleep and wouldn't sleep
When love came and told me I shouldn't sleep
Bewitched, bothered and bewildered
Am I

Lost my heart but what of it
He is cold, I agree
He can laugh but I love it
Although the laugh's on me

I'll sing to him each spring to him
And I long for the day when I'll cling to him
Bewitched, bothered and bewildered
Am I

Lost my heart but what of it
He is cold, I agree
He can laugh but I love it
Although the laugh's on me

I'll sing to him each spring to him
And I long for the day when I'll cling to him

Bewitched, bothered and bewildered
Am I

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Mickey & Sylvia's "Bewildered" describe a feeling of being hopelessly in love with someone who is not reciprocating the same level of affection. The singer acknowledges that the person she is in love with may not be the best choice for her, as he is a "fool," but she is unable to resist his "charms." The singer is portrayed as a "babe in arms," implying a sense of vulnerability and innocence to her emotions.

The lyrics suggest that love can be both a delightful and distressing experience. The singer is "wild" and "beguiled" by love, but also "whimpering" and "bewildered" by it. She is unable to sleep and unable to escape the appeal of her love interest, even though she acknowledges that he is an "imitation" and that she is being foolish. Despite this, she is still hopeful for the day when she can "cling to him," suggesting a desire for a deeper connection.

Overall, the lyrics of "Bewildered" depict the complicated emotions that come with being in love, especially when that love is not reciprocated or when the person you love is not the best choice for you.

1958 julio.

In 1980 someone told me to get "Mickey Baker's complete course in Jazz Guitar, Book One." I got it and it started me on the road to becoming a Jazz guitarist. I had no idea what Mickey had been doing all these years and I was surprised to find out that he had just recently passed away. I thought he passed away years ago. RIP Mickey. You were an inspiration to many.

I remember seeing them perform this on Dick Clark's Beechnut Show in 1958. I was impressed.
