Elle me dit
The song "Ça m'étonne pas" by Mickey 3D tells a story of a chance encounter with a young girl walking down the street. The singer engages in a conversation with her and asks her what she is doing in his street while telling her that he doesn't know her. The girl responds by saying that she has just moved in and if the singer doesn't like it, he can hate her or make her life miserable, but she won't leave. The singer realizes that they could have been friends and done things together like going to the ball, seeing each other in the morning, seeing each other in the afternoon or taking walks under the stars. But people are always suspicious, and that's why war isn't surprising to him. The encounter then ends on a note of frustration, with the singer unable to find the girl again, as she doesn't live in the same place anymore.
The song is a commentary on the difficulty of interpersonal relationships and the way that suspicion and mistrust can get in the way of meaningful connections. The theme of missed connections runs through the song, with the singer and the girl missing out on the opportunity to be friends. The lyrics also suggest a broader societal issue of distrust between people, which can lead to conflict and war.
