Comenzó a destacar en el panorama musical como compositor para estrellas del momento como Wilfrido Vargars, Rubby Pérez, Peter Cruz, Luis Ovalles y Jerry Vargas entre otros. Después de que Sergio Vargas y Garibaldi hicieran de uno de sus temas, "La Ventanita" un éxito internacional, Mickey Taveras emprendió su carrera en solitario. Grabó su primer disco "Lucharé" en el sello discográfico Karen y obtuvo con él triple platino en Colombia, doble en Centroamérica y discos de oro en Venezuela y México.

Su última producción, "Más romántico" es un compendio de 14 temas en el que se mezclan composiciones originales con otras de otros géneros. El primer corte "Historia entre tus dedos" alcanzó el puesto de honor en la lista de la revista Billboard en la categoría de música tropical. Esta obra le ha valido la nominación a la Mejor Canción del Año en la categoría de música tropical del Premio Lo Nuestro 2002.
