Me Me Me
Middle Brother Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You get me out of trouble
As much as you can stay out of banging in
If you lay in your bed
Put lies in your head
If he interrupts the feeling
That he cannot comprehend
Is me me me
She put me out of trouble
But I could not speak out without judge you
If you just give up
If you just give in
Then you drink yourself to sleep
And wonder where he's been
Me me me me

I do my very own thing in this day
And I can't concentrate
But if you just ? in my ways
I got a desire
You wrote me on a Sunday
Don't you wanna ? if you don't need it
If he only hands around cracking jokes and feeling down
If you push your arms around me ? leave me out
Me me me me
I do my very own thing in this day
And I can't concentrate
But if you just ? in my ways
I got a desire
You keep me out of trouble
As much as you can stay out of banging in
If you lay in your bed
Put lies in your head
If he interrupts the feeling

That he cannot comprehend
Is me me me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the Middle Brother song "Me Me Me" point to themes of relationship struggles, self-centeredness, and the need for validation. The first verse begins with the idea that the person addressed in the song helps to "get me out of trouble." This is immediately followed by the caution to "stay out of banging in," which could refer to avoiding arguments or romantic entanglements. The following lines suggest that the singer is wrestling with a self-obsessed mindset that is prone to lies and interruptions. The phrase "me me me" serves as a refrain, emphasizing the sense of egotism and self-involvement that the singer is struggling with.

The second verse seems to address the same person as in the first, but from a different angle. Here, the person is credited with "putting me out of trouble," but the acknowledgement is paired with the admission that the singer could not speak out or offer public praise without risking judgment. This seems to be an indication that the singer values the opinion of the person being addressed and craves their approval or validation. The continued repetition of "me me me" serves as a reminder of the underlying self-absorption that needs to be overcome.

Overall, the song offers a candid and introspective look at the messiness and insecurity of human relationships. The repeated use of the phrase "you keep me out of trouble" highlights the importance of having supportive people in our lives who are willing to step in and offer help when we need it most. The warning to avoid being too self-centered is a reminder to stay humble and focused on the needs of those around us.

Most early rock music came from an earlier generation just like this. I personally like it. That's from a 63 yr old boomer . I'm waiting for the next sound that can stand on its own without being a throwback to what was. Yet, I still like these guys.

@Powerharp62 well frank zappa is a great example of a unique sound(he's made 64 albums BTW) gentle giant was pretty tight for an old band, kebnekaise, absynthe minded (VERY diverse) al di meola, anthony phillips, the dear hunter, young the giant, don ross (actually any candy rat guitarist!) estradasphere, the flower kings, the hoosiers(not TOO unique sounding, but they're so damn catchy) joanna newsom, kings of convenience, maps and atlases, mr. bungle, of montreal, and of course FOXY SHAZAM!!!

Oh, please, they made a favor to Elvis. Really improved it. They sound better with up tempo songs than slow, dragging ones.

@MsFelixtheCat50 Van Morrison wrote a good song about the advent of radio and its influence. It's on the album "Enlightenment" and is called "In the Days Before Rock and Roll." Check it out. Rock was being born while us boomers were still in diapers.
