Miguel Aceves Mejía, or "the King of the falsetto" as he was popularly known, was born in Ciudad Juárez in the state of Chihuahua. He became a popular Mexican film star during its golden age and was widely regarded for his interpretations of various Mexican musical folkloric genres, particularly the ranchera.
Originally part of a traveling theater company, Aceves Mejía began recording for the first time in 1938 with the trio Los Porteños. At the beginning of his career he interpreted mainly boleros, tangos, and Afro-Cuban rhythms. During his career he recorded more than 1000 songs on 90 discs and starred in over 60 films.
Among his greatest hits are La Barca de Guaymas, El Pastor, La del Rebozo Blanco, Se Me Hizo Fácil, Yo Tenía un Chorro de Voz, Vaya con Dios, La Malagueña Salerosa, El Jinete, El Crucifijo de Piedra and Cuatro Caminos. He was noted for composing such songs as El Pescado Nadador and O, Gran Dios, even though his forté was primarily as a singer in his own right.
In 1945 he began dedicating himself solely to singing and, following the deaths of Pedro Infante and Jorge Negrete, ventured into the world of cinema.
In 1959 he appeared in Amor se dice cantando.
He died just a few days short of his 91st birthday on November 6, 2006 in Mexico City. As is tradition in Mexico, his body lay in state in the Palacio de las Bellas Artes (Palace of Fine Arts) in Mexico City. This honour is reserved for only the greatest Mexican singers, writers, composers, sculptors and painters.

The song "Vamonos" by Miguel Aceves Mejía talks about the differences in social classes and how society dictates who can and cannot fall in love. The lyrics express how people have judged and criticized the couple’s relationship because they are two different kinds of people from different social classes. The society sees the singer as unworthy of being with his loved one because he is not from the same social status as his lover. However, the singer doesn't care about what the society thinks, and he loves his partner unconditionally.
In the chorus, he sings about how their love is all that matters. The singer urges his lover to escape with him to a place where they will not be judged for their love. He wants them to be away from the world, where there are no societal laws, no institutions, no rules, and nobody to judge them. The singer also tells his lover that he does not force her to be with him. If she chooses to be with him, it will be out of love, and she should tell people that.
Overall, the song is about the universal theme of love conquers all. The social status of the two individuals does not matter; all that matters is their love.

Que no somos iguales dice la gente
People say that we are not the same

Pero yo ya te quise y no te olvido
But I already loved you and I don't forget you
To die in your arms is my dream
I don't understand those things about social classes
I just know that you love me and I love you

If we are not the same, why does it matter?
Nuestra historia de amores tendrá que seguir
Our love story will have to continue
And as someone told me that life is very short
This time, I have come for you forever
But I want you to know that I don't force you
Que si vienes conmigo es por amor
If you come with me, it is because of love
Say with all your strength what I am in your life
So that they see that you love me as I love you
Vámonos, donde nadie nos juzgue
Let's go where no one judges us
Donde nadie nos diga que hacemos mal
Where no one tells us what we're doing wrong
Vámonos alejados del mundo
Let's go away from the world
Where there is no justice or laws or anything
Nomás nuestro amor
Just our love

Mirada certera y valiente:
