Right Place Right Time
Mika Lyrics

I played me a waiting game
If a maid refused me with tossing curls
I'd let the old Earth take a couple of whirls
While I plied her with tears in lieu of pearls
And as time came around she came my way
As time came around, she came
You court them in song and rhyme
They answer with words and a clover ring
But if you could examine the goods they bring
They have little to offer but the songs they sing
And the plentiful waste of time of day
A plentiful waste of time
Oh, it's a long, long while from May to December
But the days grow short when you reach September
When the autumn weather turns the leaves to flame
One hasn't got time for the waiting game
Oh, the days dwindle down to a precious few
September, November
And these few precious days I'll spend with you
These precious days I'll spend with you
Mika's Right Place Right Time carries a tone that is reflective and nostalgic, and is an ode to the idea of being in the right place right time. The lyrics are a contemplation of the past and a reminder to enjoy the present moment. The opening verse speaks about waiting for the right time for love. The singer talks about how he courted women in his youth, but never forced them to come around. He let time take a natural course and didn't push too hard. Eventually, one came his way, and he realized that all he needed to do was wait for things to fall into place.
The second verse talks about the spring and how young girls were wooed through song and rhyme but had very little significant to offer. The singer talks about how time is precious and how he has no time for games anymore. The chorus of the song speaks about how the days dwindle down to a precious few and how it's essential to make the most of the time that we have now. The singer talks about spending his limited time with his loved one.
In summary, Right Place Right Time is about being patient and taking a step back, allowing events to take place naturally instead of rushing into things. It's about cherishing the time that we have now and making the most of it.
Line by Line Meaning
When I was a young man courting the girls
Back in the days when I was single and used to pursue women
I played me a waiting game
I followed a slow and steady approach towards love
If a maid refused me with tossing curls
If a woman rejected me with a casual wave of her hair
I'd let the old Earth take a couple of whirls
I'd wait patiently for things to change with time
While I plied her with tears in lieu of pearls
I tried to win her over with my emotions instead of material gifts
And as time came around she came my way
Eventually, after some time had passed, she came to me
As time came around, she came
I didn't rush things and they fell into place when the time was right
When you meet with the young girls early in the Spring
When you start seeing young women at the beginning of their prime
You court them in song and rhyme
You woo them by singing and saying sweet things
They answer with words and a clover ring
In turn, they respond with words of love and small tokens of affection
But if you could examine the goods they bring
If you were to consider what they truly offered
They have little to offer but the songs they sing
You would realize that their love is often frivolous and ephemeral
And the plentiful waste of time of day
You would also see that they often waste a lot of time doing pointless things
A plentiful waste of time
All this romantic dating and courting is often a waste of time
Oh, it's a long, long while from May to December
It takes a long time for love to blossom and mature
But the days grow short when you reach September
However, time seems to speed up as one grows older and reaches the end of their life
When the autumn weather turns the leaves to flame
When the weather becomes chilly and the leaves change color
One hasn't got time for the waiting game
One can't afford to wait patiently and must seize the opportunity when it presents itself
Oh, the days dwindle down to a precious few
As time passes, there are fewer opportunities to experience love and joy
September, November
The autumn months when everything starts to die and nature prepares to rest
And these few precious days I'll spend with you
So, the few moments that one gets to spend with their loved ones becomes incredibly valuable
These precious days I'll spend with you
They are the ones that make life worth living
