2. MIKE is a punk rock band from Stockholm, Sweden.
MIKE started in January 2006 by Joel, Fredrik, Viktor and Jesper. The four guys from the southern part of Stockholm/Sweden had all played in different bands for years. Back in 1996 Viktor started a band called No Division with a friend. Jesper joined the band in 2000 (then called Pronoid), where they both played for five years. Joel played in the band Dechas, who released an EP on DayGlo Records in 2000 and an album on Shutdown Records in Australia in 2002. Fredrik had been playing in the band In Memory Of Me and in different bands before that. Jesper and Joel played together from time to time for a while and they both love punk rock, and when Jesper quit Pronoid they started talking about playing punk together. They talked to their old friends Viktor and Fredrik and started jamming some of Jespers songs and the result is what today is known as the band MIKE. After about a year our good friend Fredrik decided to quit the band to play with a reggae band from Uppsala. We then tried out two drummers but decided to pick one of Joel's old friends, Totte. He'd earlier been the drummer in bands like Milk bar, Devoured, Songea and Simpleton. Experience and routine was a fact. He'd actually only been in the band for about a week when he performed his first show with MIKE, and a week after that we went into the studio to record a couple of songs.

I thought you would be gone away, oh
I’m wrestling up with my faith
And all along you was a fake, was a fake
Fakin’ now you’re takin’ all my time away
I would stay but I just want a break, break, break, oh oh, yeah
Break it down for me break it down for me, yeah
Break it down for me break it down for me, oh
Woah oh oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh
Woah oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah oh oh oh
If only you knew
Maybe you would still be here
I’m telling you I thought that I could trust you
I could bust through, lust too, but
Who was right? Nobody no
I came in and out
Heard you clear and loud
But I know what I’m about and that’s nobody like you
That’s nobody like you, oh oh oh
Now I moved on
No time to worry just time to be strong
Can’t think about all the things that we’ve done
‘Cause everything was meant to be gone
I tried to tell myself about you all along
But now I gotta talk about you in a song
Break it down for me break it down for me, yeah
Break it down for me break it down for me, oh
Woah oh oh, oh oh oh oh
Woah oh oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh
Woah oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah oh oh oh
The lyrics of Mike's song "Break It Up" delve into themes of betrayal, realization, and moving on from a toxic relationship. The opening lines express a sense of surprise and urgency, as the singer reflects on how they never anticipated the other person leaving. There is a feeling of wrestling with one's faith and identity, realizing that the person they trusted was actually fake all along. This revelation leads to a desire to break free from the toxic dynamic, as the other person is now consuming all of their time and energy.
The chorus serves as a plea to break down the relationship and its issues, asking for a clearer understanding and resolution. The repetition of these lines emphasizes the need for clarity and closure in order to move forward. The following verse introduces a sense of regret and longing, as the singer ponders on whether things could have been different if the other person had known the depth of their feelings.
The lyrics then delve into a reflection on the past, acknowledging the moments of vulnerability and trust that were ultimately shattered by the other person's betrayal. There is a sense of defiance and self-assurance as the singer proclaims that they have moved on and are focusing on their own strength and growth. The acknowledgement that everything was meant to come to an end alludes to a sense of acceptance and closure, even in the face of lingering emotions and memories.
The final lines of the song express a sense of release and empowerment, as the singer resolves to let go of the past and find catharsis through music. The repetition of the plea to break it down further underscores the desire to dissect and understand the complexities of the failed relationship.
