Rebirth
Mike Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Love and control is different
This black body ain't nothing
To hold in prison packed lobbies with gauze
I grown to listen with
Mommy's brothers are trekking
They've gone missing
Mom fronting, she stuck like
She don't listen, but
I can see when she
Looks, see they reflection, nah
Wish I could question pops
Ain't tryna stress him out
I did my best without ya
You stuck the rest in power
I was done for hours
Talking to my friend nostalgic
Niggas food and we was never
Type to censor ours by my brother's side
I had to leave the fence for cowards
Who gon' win without us? Who
Gon' win the product?
Group me in the cars, uh
My dudes is with wahala
That's Yoruba problem
To niggas jacking steez trust them niggas
Often leave you with my back complete
Put calls in, therapy

It's live, from the heart of the city
Renaissance man

Live from the heart of the city

Live from the heart of city
Yeah, that's good, thank you

Overall Meaning

In these lyrics, Mike reflects on the complexities of love and control, specifically in the context of his black body and the systemic oppression it faces. He juxtaposes the concepts of love and control, highlighting the stark difference between the two. Mike acknowledges that his black body is seen as nothing more than something to be imprisoned or controlled, evident in the reference to "prison packed lobbies." Despite this, he has grown to listen and understand his experiences, even when his mother's brothers have gone missing and she fails to truly listen and support him. Mike yearns to question his father, but he doesn't want to stress him out, so he tries to do his best without him.

The song continues with Mike reflecting on his friendship and loyalty, emphasizing that he and his friends were never afraid to express themselves freely. He mentions his "brother's side" and how he had to leave behind the fear and cowardice that comes with being fenced in by societal expectations. Mike questions who will succeed or win without their contributions and acknowledges that their cultural identity, represented through the Yoruba term "wahala," creates obstacles for them. He warns against trusting those who steal their style, as they often leave you feeling deceived and hurt. In the end, Mike alludes to seeking therapy and finding solace in putting his thoughts and experiences into words, suggesting that this is his way of healing and processing everything.

I absolutely love the looks of this tank. The deck is a thing of beauty. Way to stay original and keep your own personal designs yours. You dont need 5 collaborators to help you

Jamie Anacleto

hey Mike, I just got this RTA and I love it. A bit difficult to build if you dont have premade coils, but very much worth the effort! Favor and airflow are all top notch, I had leaks on my first builds but they stopped when I used thicker cotton
