Groves High School and Duke University, and is a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity (Gamma Chapter).
At the age of 16, while still in the 11th grade, Mike attended the Recording Institute of Detroit (Eastpointe, MI). Taking classes on the weekends (so as to not interfere with his high school studies), he graduated the institute's Associate Recording Engineer Program with a 4.0 GPA.
With Don Cannon and DJ Benzi, he released his first mixtape, "A Matter of Time," from his dorm room at Duke University in March 2009.[3] In July 2009, Posner signed a major label deal with J Records (RCA/Sony).[4] He chose to return to Duke after signing his record deal, and toured on the weekends while at the same time recording for his debut album.[5][6][7] Posner's second mixtape "One Foot Out The Door," hosted by Clinton Sparks, was released on October 27, 2009.
His debut album titled 31 Minutes to Takeoff produced by Eric Barker was released August 10, 2010.[8] The first single from the album, "Cooler Than Me," as of July 3 had climbed the Billboard Hot 100 to reach No. 6.[9] He performed at Bonnaroo and the 2010 Warped Tour in the summer. A second single, "Please Don't Go," was issued on July 20, 2010. Posner also performed his hit song "Cooler Than Me" on America's Got Talent on July 28, 2010. He also performed at John Barleycorn in Schaumburg IL, on July 31st. He also performed the hit on Live with Regis and Kelly on August 3rd, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on August 4. He performed "Cooler Than Me" on the Wendy Williams Show Aug. 5, 2010, and on Jay Leno Aug 9, 2010.

Speed Of Sound
Mike Posner & Big Sean Lyrics
Block Beaters
Make my dream real
Bl-bl-bl-bl-block Beaters
Moving at the speed of sound
With my head up in the clouds
Moving at the speed of sound
With my head up in the clouds
Yeah yeah, my life's like
[Chorus:]
Moving at the speed of sound
Yeah yeah, yeah yeah
With my head up in the clouds
Yeah yeah, my life's like
Moving at the speed of sound
Yeah yeah, yeah yeah
With my head up in the clouds
My ma keeps telling me
I better stay in school
But when that ends, Lord knows
I don't know what I'm going to do
[Hook:]
Cause everytime I blink now
Another day rolls by
It's getting harder not to think about
All the things on my mind
Like, I remember this time last year
I was all alone
I felt like I was two feet tall
Now there's a hundred million numbers
Inside of my phone
But I still got no one to call
My life's like
[Chorus]
My friends keep telling me
How much they believe in me
I wish that I saw the things that they see in me
[Hook]
[Chorus]
[Big Sean:]
My life's like
My life's like
Ay, do it, ay, music, ay
High rise, elevator life
I'm gone in 60 seconds
Or Talladega nights
I know I'm living wrong
I wish I could make it right
But baby, hold that thought...
Cause I gotta take this flight
When I leave my passport
Overseas passports
Hotels with the glass floors
Everything I ask for
Fast cars, fast hoes
My whole life is fast foward
But if I stop, stop
I might hit that dashboard
And I be, I be
I be, I be always take and choose
In and out relations with
Girls who want relationships
And I can fake a smile
And I end a conversation well
We just can't see eye to eye
We might need that LASIK shit
Cause tomorrow I'll be gone gone gone
Dip into another time zone zone zone
Tryna make my hotel feel like home home home
Phone won't stop ringing but I still feel all alone
My life's like
[chorus]
(Move it up, bring it up, bring it up, up up
Bring it up, bring it up, move it up, up up...)
Make my dream real
Bl-bl-bl-bl-block Beaters
Moving at the speed of sound
