These kids react to you as if they've just seen magic
People seem to be amazed and enamored with your life underground

If you ever have the opportunity to leave the Underground, you should take it

You should stay underground where people appreciate and admire you

You're the only thing that shines in a tunnel with no lights at the ends
You are the only source of joy and entertainment in an otherwise dull and dreary tunnel

I wouldn't want to be the one that made the whole thing escalate
I don't want to be responsible for encouraging you to make a decision that could lead to negative consequences

If I found out that you tried to get to the top and fell
If you attempted to leave the Underground and failed, I would feel guilty

The quest for fame can send even the strongest minded off the rails
Chasing fame and success can cause someone to lose their sense of direction and purpose

I guess I looked at what you're currently worth and thought "he should have more"
I evaluated your current situation and thought you deserved more success and recognition

And assumed that you agreed but couldn't afford a bigger platform

It dawned on me as I got through the doors of a packed train
I realized as I entered a crowded train that you might be better off not dealing with the chaos and stress of it

You aught to be the one that wasn't caught up in the rat race
You might be better off living underground than dealing with the pressures and competition of the world above

And although I'm not the first to see
I am not the first person to acknowledge this perspective

It's more than obvious to me, that only in the dark are you gonna shine, gonna shine
It is clear to me that you are most appreciated and admired in the dark, underground world
