Chasing Time
Millenium Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
So many stars they hang so near
Makes me wonder is it all eternal
Stranded here endlessly
There's a promise in the wind that blows
It's life and it's dying
Standing alone with my eyes open wide
I can hear the voices say
Turn around and carry the day
And I've tried I've tried
But I'm still chasing time
So many pieces to the puzzle
A story book that has no ending
There's no way out inside this Babylon
There's a frost in the still of the morning
The birds have flown they've all gone away
Seeking shelter form the cold cold winter
Keep me away I don't want to stay
There's a promise in the wind that blows
It's life and it's dying
Standing alone as the spirit start to rise
I can hear the voices say
Turn around and carry the day
And I've tried I've tried
But I'm still chasing time
So many pieces to the puzzle
A story book that has no ending
There's no way out inside this Babylon
And I don't wanna stay
"Chasing Time" by Millenium is a poetic reflection of the passage of time and our attempts at understanding and navigating it. The opening lines of the song set the scene, as the singer envisions an image on the ceiling amidst the stars, contemplating the eternal nature of the universe. The song portrays a sense of being stranded and lost in the face of this eternity, and the struggle to find meaning and purpose in a world that can often seem chaotic and overwhelming.
The lyrics evocatively capture the isolation and loneliness that can come with this pursuit. Whether it's a frosty morning with birds flown away or feeling trapped in an internal "Babylon," the song encapsulates the sense of confusion and unease that can come with the passing of time. Despite this, there is a persistent sense of hope throughout the lyrics, with the lyrics encouraging listeners to "turn around and carry the day" despite their difficulties.

I chased a lot of time but ended up escaping Babylon - the key is to hang on to the promise in the wind that blows no matter how much it's dying.
