Boy In The Tree
Milli Vanilli Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

An old cowpoke went ridin' out one dark and windy day
Upon a ridge he rested as he rode along his way
When all at once a mighty herd of red eyed cows he saw
Plowing through the ragged skies and up a cloudy draw
Yipie I ay, yipie I oh
Ghost turned in the sky
Their horns were black and shiny and their hooks are made of steel
Their brands were still on fire and their hot breath he could feel
A bolt of fear shot through him as they thundered through the sky
He saw the riders coming hard and he heard their mournful cry
Yipie I ay, yipie I oh
Ghost riders in the sky
Their face is gaunt their eyes were blurred their shirts all soaked with sweat
They're ridin' hard to catch that herd but they ain't caught 'em yet
'Cause they've got to ride forever on the range up in the sky
On horses snorting fire as they ride on hear them cry
Yipie I ay, yipie I oh
Ghost riders in the sky
As the riders looked on by him he heard one call his name
If you want to save your soul from hell a riding on our range
Then cow-boy change your ways today or with us you will ride
Tryin' to catch the Devils herd, across these endless skies
Yipie I ay, yipie I oh
Ghost riders in the sky

Yipie I ay, yipie I oh
Ghost riders in the sky

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Milli Vanilli's song Boy in the Tree are actually based on a famous Western folk song called Ghost Riders in the Sky. The song tells a story of an old cowpoke who is riding alone on a dark and windy day. As he rides along a ridge, he sees a mighty herd of red-eyed cows plowing through the ragged skies and up a cloudy draw. These cows are being chased by ghost riders, who are gaunt, have blurred eyes, and shirts soaked with sweat. The cowpoke is afraid of these ghost riders and their horses that are snorting fire, as they ride on.

The ghost riders call out to the cowpoke, warning him to change his ways and save his soul from hell. They tell him that if he joins them, he will be riding with them forever, trying to catch the Devil's herd across the endless skies. The lyrics use vivid imagery to paint a picture of the ghostly scene and convey a sense of foreboding.

The song has been covered by a variety of artists and has remained popular over the years. It has been interpreted as an allegory for the struggle between good and evil, life and death, or as a metaphor for the human condition. The haunting melody and eerie lyrics have made it a favorite among Western and country music fans.

Here's my guess on the lyrics; in the second stanza I don't quite catch what they're singing:

There's a boy in the tree who's watching you
Looking with big brown eyes at you
A boy in the tree and he can't run away

I'm walking along in the USA
I'm thinking about to be far away
I'm tryin' to find a gig where I should play

And so I made up my mind
I should go by car
For by going by foot it was much too far
Looking around I just didn't know what to say

Nothing seemed unreal
I soon realised the boy in the tree

[There's] A boy in the tree who's watching you
Looking with big brown eyes at you
A boy in the tree and he can't run away [2x]

We got in the world as imperial [?]
I'm feeling myself like a very tall king
I'm catched [caught] in a dream and I, I can't run away

I'm thinking about of how to stop that dream
I wanna wake up to a [?]
I'm catched [caught] in a dream and I can't run away

Nothing seemed unreal
I soon realised the boy in the tree

[There's] A boy in the tree who's watching you
Looking with big brown eyes at you
A boy in the tree and he can't run away [6x]

A boy in the tree

--- There u go, just my guess

All of Milli Vanilli's songs were and are great; to this day I am thrilled with so much energy; It was too much for these two: they were all real Milli Vanilli; each voice will.
