Used To Be
Mindless Behavior Lyrics

Used to be, used to be, used to be
You and me, you and me, you and me

I guess it's official
So you don't wanna kick it with a five star stunna like me
You got his initials
Where my name used to be
Where my chain used to be
Didn't I used to be that dude?

I see you everywhere-everywhere I go
Gotta hear it from everybody we know
I be tryna keep it G like it's whatever
Wishing you and me were back together

Girl I used to be your Superman
Now I'm flying solo
You used to be one hundred with me
Now you on the low-low
Things ain't been the same
Girl we ain't a thing like we
Used to be, used to be, used to be

We used to be like Jay and Beyonce
Brad and Angelina
Haven't let the gossip and the rumors come between us
We ain't like we
Used to be, used to be, used to be
That used to be us

We has J's in every color for the summer (th-that was us)
Spent them holiday's with one another (th-that was us)
Oh, girl we was like family
Don't front with me I know you missin'
What we used to be

I see you everywhere-everywhere I go
I gotta hear it from everybody we know
I been tryna keep it G like it's whatever
Wishing you and me were back together

Girl I used to be your Superman
Now I'm flying solo
You used to be one hundred with me
Now you on the low-low
Things ain't been the same
Girl we ain't a thing like we
Used to be, used to be, used to be

We used to be like Jay and Beyonce
Brad and Angelina
Haven't let the gossip and the rumors come between us
We ain't like we
Used to be, used to be, used to be
That used to be us

Can you even blame me girl
For feeling like you threw it all away
I'mma let you crown your rebound king
But that ain't nothing
Like we used to be

Girl I used to be your Superman
Now I'm flying solo
You used to be one hundred with me
Now you on the low-low
Things ain't been the same
Girl we ain't a thing like we
Used to be, used to be, used to be

We used to be like Jay and Beyonce
Brad and Angelina
Haven't let the gossip and the rumors come between us
We ain't like we
Used to be, used to be, used to be
That used to be us
That was us
That was us
That was us
That was us

That was us
That was us

Overall Meaning

The song "Used To Be" by Mindless Behavior is a bittersweet reflection of a past romance that has gone sour. The lyrics are emotionally charged, filled with regret and longing for what once was. The first two lines, "Used to be, used to be, used to be / You and me, you and me, you and me" establish the central theme of the song, which is reminiscing about the past relationship.

The second verse is particularly poignant as it laments the loss of intimacy in the relationship as the lyrics say, "You got his initials / Where my name used to be / Where my chain used to be / Didn't I used to be that dude?" The chorus repeats the title phrase and emphasizes the regret and sadness felt by the singer. The bridge contains a hopeful sentiment, that the couple can overcome the obstacles in their relationship caused by gossip and rumors.

Overall, the song paints a picture of a couple that has grown apart, but one party is still holding onto the fading memories of what they used to be. It's a relatable feeling and the lyrics are well-crafted to evoke a sense of nostalgia and heartache.

@Shanique Frankson That's very subjective. The comparison people are making in this thread is MB vs BTS. Both groups debuted around the same time (2011 and 2013). BTS's choreography isn't necessarily better, the style is just fit for competitive dance groups which are often more high energy and high impact which is incredibly hard to pull off and sing at the same time. Whereas MB's choreography was fitting for just performances, basically having something to do on stage instead of just standing there singing and closely follows the style of older male groups like New Edition with the classic transitions, etc.

K-pop style of choreography follows the competitive dance group style because they often have a lot of members in the group (BTS has 7 which is typically the norm for kpop boy groups or more...some groups have upwards off 20 members like NCT etc.) which means you have to do more to keep the audience's attention and not look like a backup dancer in your own group lol.

Also, groups with an odd number of members (5,7,9, etc.) tend to have cleaner choreographies because they often have better options for formations when they dance and you're less likely to have members being blocked by other members on stage like you have with groups with an even number of members. Looking at MB's choreography you can tell that if they're not dancing side by side in a line, they're coming up with creative ways to switch places and still have the choreography look full. It's not easy to do with 4 members as it is with an odd number.

Gen Z has become illusioned with K-pop because of how intricate the choreography looks. Yet, they don't know that it was B2K that started that trend. If you look at old B2K performances, they did things like tutting, back flips and basically the You Got Served era of dancing which was again.... competitive dance group choreography...and they brought it to the stage.

Even Kpop's biggest boy group Big Bang was modelled after B2K, and they popped off doing the same thing B2K did which ushered in the competitive dance routines as choreography in Kpop.

With that said, Black Americans truly are the blueprint in entertainment and paved the way. 🎉🎉 HAPPY BLACK HISTORY MONTH 🎉🎉
