Í stormi gekk ég sem áður,
barðist gegn óbeislandi öflum
en ég hélt samt ótrauður áfram
ju, endanum var ekki náð.
Það virtist eigi innan seilingar
og hljóp það með mig í gönur
hve nóttin varð alltaf meiri.
Moldugan veginn tróð ég fast
og reyndi að horfa fram á við,
en skyggnið reyndist sem áður
gjörsamlega til einskis nýtt.
Þá, á krossgötum mætti ég Honum,
þeim sem ég taldi mig best þekkja.
En Hann sem þar stóð gegnt mér
reyndist ekkert vera nema spegilmynd.
Hann fylgdi mér áfram um tíma
yfir torfærar hæðir og hóla,
uns við stóðum loks við lokamarkið:
við dyr hallar clgleymis.
Nu hafði nóttin náð sínu hámarki
og ég stóð á stalli mínum
en eigi í ljóma þeirrar gleði sem ég vænti
heldur berstrípaður og allslaus.
VIII. Oblivion
I walked in a storm like before,
fought untamable forces
but I carried on intrepid
no, the end was not yet reached.
It seemed not within reach
that my oration would meet its effort
and it was getting frustrating
how the night kept increasing.
The gritty path I trampled firmly
and attempted to look ahead,
but the visibility turned out like before
entirely worthless.
Then, on crossroads I struck Him,
the one I believed best to recognize.
But He that there stood against me
proved to be nothing but a reflection.
He lead me on for a while
over heavy hills and lomas,
until we stood at last by the goal:
at the gates of the palace of Oblivion.
Now the night had reached its apex
and I stood on my pedestal
but not in the splendour of the bliss I awaited
but stark stripped down and destitute.
The lyrics of Misþyrming's song "Algleymi" explore a journey through a personal and internal struggle. The singer describes walking through a storm, fighting against powerful forces but remaining determined to continue. However, despite their resilience, they realize that the end of their struggle is still out of reach.
The singer reflects on the difficulty of their journey, feeling as though their efforts are not being recognized or valued. The frustration intensifies as the night grows darker, symbolizing the increasing hardships and challenges faced along the way. They trudge through a difficult and arduous path, trying to remain focused on the future, but finding that their efforts seem futile.
At a crossroads, the singer encounters someone they believed they knew well, but soon realizes that the person standing before them is nothing more than a reflection, a mere illusion. This encounter signifies a realization that their perception and understanding of themselves and others may not always be accurate.
Continuing the journey, the singer is led by this reflection towards their ultimate destination: the gates of the palace of Oblivion. As the night reaches its peak, the singer finds themselves standing alone, stripped of any expected joy or fulfillment. This stark image represents a sense of disillusionment and emptiness, suggesting that the singer's struggle has not led them to the desired outcome.
Overall, "Algleymi" delves into the complexities of personal struggle, the frustrations that come with it, and the disillusionment that can arise when expectations are not met.
