Pitney began playing drums at 6 and guitar at 12. He played in a bluegrass band with his brother and a friend. Pitney moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where he signed to Curb Records and began working with record producer Tony Brown.
Pitney released his single "Country", in December 2014. He co-wrote the song with Bill Anderson and Bobby Tomberlin. Billy Dukes of Taste of Country reviewed the single positively, saying that "Mo isn't making a statement, and he's not the sign of some traditional country revolution in 2015. But he's a reminder of how good a simple country song sung by a man who believes in God and George Strait can feel." Johnny Nevin of Huffington Post also reviewed Pitney's music favorably, saying that "Mo Pitney knows a couple of really important things about being Country, real Country. One of them is that he knows who he is, and that's always going to be important, because it's the only way anyone can keep becoming the person they really want to be. Just as important though, it seems like Mo Pitney never forgets about everybody else, and how important they are too." It was the third most-added country song its first week at radio. The song entered Top 40 on Country Airplay on the chart dated for the week ending June 20, 2015, its 19th week on that chart.
His second single, "Boy & a Girl Thing", released to country radio on August 31, 2015. It reached #50 on Hot Country Songs in October 2016. His debut album is Behind This Guitar. The album's third single, "Everywhere", was released to country radio in December 2016. The song went for adds at country radio on February 13, 2017.
Pitney's debut album, Behind This Guitar, was released on October 7, 2016 and featured collaborations with Morgane Stapleton and Mac McAnally. It charted at #10 on Billboard's Top Country Albums in its first week.

That's just how it's supposed to be
He hates dumb tea parties
And she won't climb a tree
It's a boy and a girl thing
A girl and a boy thing
And get the braces off her teeth
He'll stop makin' faces
And start savin' her a seat
It's a boy and a girl thing
A girl and a boy thing
She'll start wearin' makeup
And he'll start noticin' the curves
They'll get a little nervous
When she's with him and he's with her
Is he gonna kiss me?
Wonder if she wants me to?
Awkwardly embarrassed
Not sure what to do
It's a boy and a girl thing
A girl and a boy thing
They'll throw around 'I love you's'
Start makin' plans to say I do
Start a brand new life together
And probably have some babies too
They'll fight and act like children
But make up like they're seventeen
And even when they're eighty
It's still gonna be
A boy and a girl thing
A girl and a boy thing
A girl and a boy thing
A boy and a girl thing
The lyrics to "Boy & A Girl Thing" by Mo Pitney are a sweet and nostalgic portrayal of the innocence and awkwardness that accompanies young love. The song tells the story of a boy and a girl who, despite their differences, are drawn to each other in a way that only young love can explain. The boy is rough and tumble - he hates tea parties and likes to climb trees - while the girl is more refined, with braces on her teeth and pigtails in her hair. As they grow older and start to notice each other's changing bodies and personalities, they become nervous and unsure how to act around each other.
The song captures the thrill and excitement of young love as well as the awkwardness and uncertainty that comes with it. The line "Is he gonna kiss me? Wonder if she wants me to?" perfectly captures the insecurity and self-doubt that can plague teenage relationships. As the song progresses, the couple grows up, throws around "I love you"s, and starts making plans to spend the rest of their lives together. Despite their fights and arguments, they always come back to each other because, as the title suggests, it's just a boy and a girl thing.
Overall, "Boy & A Girl Thing" is a heartwarming and relatable depiction of young love that is sure to bring back memories for anyone who has ever been in love as a teenager.

This is true country music, much better than most being passed off as country today. I truly hope Mo Pitney becomes a super star and continues to record this great music. This should be nominated for video of the year.

One of my close friends Mark Nesler wrote this song. We both heard Mo Pitney play it live in Luckenbach Texas last weekend.. Mo is real country and not Bro Country.... You've got to love this guy; he's an old soul in a young man's body trying to bring back the country to country music...
