Moby found commercial and critical success with his fifth album Play (1999), which, after receiving little recognition, became an unexpected global hit in 2000 after each track was licensed to films, television shows, and commercials. It remains his highest selling album with 12 million copies sold. Its seventh single, "South Side", featuring Gwen Stefani, remains his only one to appear on the US Billboard Hot 100, reaching No. 14. Moby followed Play with albums of varied styles including electronic, dance, rock, and downtempo music, starting with 18 (2002), Hotel (2005), and Last Night (2008). His later albums saw him explore ambient music, including the almost four-hour release Long Ambients 1: Calm. Sleep. (2016). Moby continues to record and release albums; his twenty-first studio album, Resound NYC, was released in May 2023.
In addition to his music career, Moby is known for his veganism and support for animal rights and humanitarian aid. He was the owner of TeaNY, a vegan cafe in Manhattan, and Little Pine, a vegan restaurant in Los Angeles, and organized the vegan music and food festival Circle V. He is the author of four books, including a collection of his photography and two memoirs: Porcelain: A Memoir (2016) and Then It Fell Apart (2019).

Almost Home
Moby Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In a moment's time
To turn away
Leave it all behind
So we climb
So we're all are told the line
The crowd is home
So let it go
Wake up, wake up, wake up
We're almost home
So let it go
Wake up, wake up, wake up
We're almost home
Time to scout
When I was a child there
I know at heart
To be at your side
So we climb
Somewhere I will draw the line
I dream it, too
The stars were mine
So let it go
Wake up, wake up, wake up
We're almost home
So let it go
Wake up, wake up, wake up
We're almost home
I'll decide
In a moment's time
To turn away
Leave it all behind
So we climb
Somewhere I will draw the line
The crowd is home
The treasure found
So let it go
Wake up, wake up, wake up
We're almost home
So let it go
Wake up, wake up, wake up
We're almost home
So let it go
Wake up, wake up, wake up
We're almost home
So let it go
Wake up, wake up, wake up
We're almost home
The song Almost Home by Moby and Damien Jurado seems to be about coming to a crossroads in life, where a decision needs to be made about whether to keep going down the same path or to change direction completely. The opening lines, "I'll decide in a moment's time, to turn away, leave it all behind," suggest that the singer is contemplating leaving something behind and starting fresh. This theme is echoed in later verses, such as "So we climb, somewhere I will draw the line," where the singer is indicating that he or she is reaching a breaking point and is ready to make a change.
The chorus of the song, with the repeated phrase "So let it go, wake up, wake up, wake up, we're almost home," suggests that while there may be uncertainty about the future, the singer is ready to embrace it and move forward. The phrase "we're almost home" seems to imply that there is a sense of completion around the corner, once the decision is made and the journey is continued.
Overall, the lyrics of Almost Home suggest a sense of resolution and determination in the face of uncertainty. It is about taking that step into the unknown and trusting that things will work out in the end.

The stars were mine
At one point, I felt like I was capable of achieving anything
