For more than twenty years he has been releasing, to only marginal commercial and critical success, playful and transgressive albums on labels in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Japan. In his lyrics and his other writing he makes seemingly random use of decontextualized pieces of continental (mostly French) philosophy, and has built up a personal world he says is "dominated by values like diversity, orientalism, and a respect for otherness." He is also known in certain circles outside the U.S. as a producer. He is fascinated by identity, Japan, the avant-garde, time travel and sex. Live Momus shows are rare but when he does perform he often sings the crowd favourite 'maf' from the Stars Forever LP.
He wears a patch over his right eye because he lost the use of it after contracting acanthamoeba keratitis from a contact lens case washed with Greek tap water.

(DRACULA) - Do not follow me, Kyoka, if you know what's good for you
(KYOKA) - Dracula, I want to feel your spooky crooked yellow teeth biting into me
(DRACULA) - My spooky crooked yellow teeth are blunted now, Kyoka, they will not set you free
(DRACULA) - If I do, Kyoka, then villagers with torches will hound me out of town
(KYOKA) - Dracula, I am the kind of girl who does not take rejection lying down
(KYOKA) - Dracula, I have a cousin in Kyoto, older and much skinnier than me
Maybe she's your type, and if you'd like to bite her neck, I'll write a letter and see if she'd agree
(DRACULA) - That's very kind, Kyoka, but the time for biting necks is over now for me
I'd rather lie here in my coffin, drinking coffee, doing nothing, or watching TV
(KYOKA) - But Dracula, what happens to ambitious girls, as frail and pale as flowers
Who dream of nothing more than offering naked necks to vampires, and being sucked for hours?
(DRACULA) - Other vampires walk the earth, Kyoka
Not through Transylvania, not where you expect
(Dracula the vampire, pah-pah-pah)
(Dracula the vampire, pah-pah-pah)

The song "Dracula" by Momus tells a tale about a young woman named Kyoka who is infatuated with Dracula. She follows him despite his warning, expressing her desire for him to bite her neck and stab her with his dagger. However, Dracula rejects her advances and tells her that his time for biting necks is over. He suggests that other vampires still walk the earth and encourages Kyoka to look elsewhere.
The lyrics are a commentary on societal norms and expectations, particularly regarding gender and sexuality. Kyoka defies expectations by actively pursuing Dracula instead of waiting for a man to pursue her. However, she ultimately faces rejection and is left searching for a fulfilling relationship.
The repetition of "Dracula the vampire" throughout the song functions as a catchy hook that adds to the eerie and mysterious tone of the lyrics. The melody includes a mix of dreamy synth and haunting guitar, creating a unique musical backdrop for the story.
Overall, "Dracula" by Momus is a poetic and thought-provoking song that offers commentary on societal norms and expectations related to gender and sexuality.
