For more than twenty years he has been releasing, to only marginal commercial and critical success, playful and transgressive albums on labels in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Japan. In his lyrics and his other writing he makes seemingly random use of decontextualized pieces of continental (mostly French) philosophy, and has built up a personal world he says is "dominated by values like diversity, orientalism, and a respect for otherness." He is also known in certain circles outside the U.S. as a producer. He is fascinated by identity, Japan, the avant-garde, time travel and sex. Live Momus shows are rare but when he does perform he often sings the crowd favourite 'maf' from the Stars Forever LP.
He wears a patch over his right eye because he lost the use of it after contracting acanthamoeba keratitis from a contact lens case washed with Greek tap water.
Nick Currie currently resides in Osaka, Japan.
The Next Time
Momus Lyrics

A truer love will come my way
The next time
But after you there'll be never be a next time for me
They say that I′ll find happiness
In someone else's warm caress
The next time
And heartaches such as this
Will soon be ancient history
They say that I′m a fool to weep
That I won′t go on losing sleep
The next time
And someone else will mend the heart you've broken in two
But how can I fall in love the next time
When I′m still so very much in love with you?
They say that I'm a fool to weep
That I won′t go on losing sleep
The next time
That someone else will mend the heart you've broken in two
But how can I fall in love the next time
When I′m still so very much in love with you?
When I'm still so very much in love with you
Momus's song "The Next Time" is a heartfelt ballad about heartbreak and the difficulty of moving on. The song starts off with the suggestion that there will be someone else who will come along and offer a truer form of love than the person who caused the initial heartbreak. The singer acknowledges this possibility but admits that, after the devastating loss they have experienced, there will never be a "next time" for them.
The lyrics go on to explore the idea that time heals all wounds and that the singer will eventually find happiness in someone else's embrace. However, they also acknowledge that the memory of their lost love will never fade entirely and that the pain they feel now will eventually become a distant memory. The singer acknowledges that others may see them as foolish for still being unable to move on, but they cannot imagine loving someone else while their heart still longs for the person they have lost.
Overall, "The Next Time" is a poignant and deeply relatable song that captures the pain of losing a love that was once everything to you. The singer's vulnerability and raw emotion make this song a classic in the realm of breakup ballads.

Absolutely brilliant - from the fantastic JoeMus (Momus) album - Mr Currie you are back on form - actually, even 'off form' you beat most stuff out there.
