All Friends and Kingdom Come
Monster Magnet Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Enter now the lions den
It's long past due that we begin
I have longed for you afar
Love sacrifice in my backyard
I have seen beyond my gaze
I have gazed beyond today
And their lust shall build a world
Is what the prophets have to say

In this world where I am king
The atoms roar and strange love sings
All the jewels that one can bring
Mutant rags and big T.V.
Service now, the mushroom boy
Come to me now, by my side
And if you don't want to play
Then I'm afraid you'll have to cry

'Cause I can fry you with my eyes
I can blow you to kingdom come
I can take all the friends away
I've got mushroom clouds in my hands
And a place in my head for you
Better come to the throne today

There's a line inside my head
I dance at night before bed
But I never took the ride
And silo shed, on the other side

Service now, the mushroom boy
Or at lest come to a show
Just one lick upon my thoughts
Or both our worlds will have to go

'Cause I can fry you with my eyes
I can blow you to kingdom come
I can take all the friends away
I've got mushroom clouds in my hands
And a place in my head for you
Better come to the throne today

Whoa

I'm just not quite right today

Whoa

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Monster Magnet's "All Friends and Kingdom Come" tell the story of a powerful and deluded protagonist who sees himself as a king, capable of wielding immense power over those around him. The song begins with the singer inviting the listener to enter the "lion's den," a metaphor for his unstable and dangerous mind. He expresses a desire for love and sacrifice, but this desire has been corrupted by his own sense of self-importance, which he sees as a necessary sacrifice and burden on those around him.

The singer describes himself as having "seen beyond [his] gaze" and having "gazed beyond today." These lines suggest that he sees himself as having a special, visionary understanding of the world around him that nobody else can comprehend. He also claims that this insight has led him to understand that "their lust shall build a world," a line that suggests that he believes he has a higher understanding of human nature and desires than anyone else.

As the song progresses, the singer's megalomania becomes more clear. He describes himself as the king of his own world, where the "atoms roar and strange love sings." He views the people and objects around him as mere tools that serve his own desires, describing mutant rags and big T.V.s as little more than trinkets to be enjoyed or discarded as he sees fit. He also warns those around him that if they do not join him in his delusions of grandeur, they will "have to cry."

This might be the most underrated American rock band ever. Dopes to Inifinity is a great album.

T Malloy

Agreed... along with Clutch.,,
C. O. C.,, and Rebel Son...
Underrated, overlooked and pushed aside like a redheaded stepchild.

peachmelba1000

It's a classic album.

Trisha Hegwood

Amen....lyrical geniuses

Ozzpocket Productions

I consider this one of the best albums to come out of the 90's..... honestly, it's one of my favorite albums of all time. I've said it in other posts, but I don't understand how Monster Magnet didn't get the notoriety they deserved....Their first 4 albums were great. This one (Dopes to Infinity) is by far my favorite....and I'll admit, when Powertrip first got released (I bought it the day it was available) I was kind of disappointed.....because it was so different than "Dopes"....but over time that album really grew on me.

Since then, I think they've had their ups and downs....but on every album there's always at LEAST a couple good tracks.

These guys deserve(d) far more than they get.

Also...we forgetting Superjudge or Spine of God? Seminal moments in full-on trippin-balls musical experimentation.

DW always claimed that dopes is a record for the mind while powertrip for the body..both of them are the peak of their career

Trisha Hegwood

You have good taste

josep maria marín
