While "Good" earned the band critical notoriety and substantial underground cred, they did not -- with this release or any subsequent -- break into the mainstream. After the release of Good, the band replaced Dupree with Billy Conway, a former bandmate of Sandman. Morphine's 1992 release of Cure for Pain, promoted by heavy touring, received some mainstream positive attention, selling over 300,000 copies worldwide and spawning a chart hit in many countries with the single Buena
Subsequent releases include Yes and Like Swimming.
On July 3, 1999, Mark Sandman collapsed on stage in Palestrina, Italy, a suburb of Rome. He was pronounced dead of a heart attack at the scene. He was 46. Morphine released The Night -- arguably their best effort -- posthumously in 2000.
After Sandman's death, the remaining band members reformed and continued to record as Twinemen and later as The Ever Expanding Elastic Waste Band
In 2004, the Mark Sandman box set Sandbox was released by Hi-n-Dry, Mark Sandman's own label. It contains two CDs and a DVD of previously unreleased material spanning Sandman’s musical career. The DVD features clips from early Sandman shows, interviews from the Morphine tours, and various videos from other Sandman solo and group projects, such as Treat Her Right.

Come Over
Morphine Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
take the first left and the next right
Come in the back door c'mon inside
Don't mind the dog he won't bite
I'll tell you where to park your car
Around the corner in the dark
If he finds you in my home
Come over, come over, come over, come over
Come over, come over, come over, come over tonight
Yeah!
That's it, that's it, that's it
C'mon c'mon c'mon inside
Up the stairs, be right behind
Draw the shade, kill the light
We don't care tonight!
Not tonight
4 x Come over, come over, come over, come over
Come over, come over, come over, come over tonight
The lyrics to Morphine's song Come Over evoke a sense of danger and urgency, as if the singer's needs can't wait any longer. The first verse gives directives on how to find the safe haven where the singer and their lover can be together, without anyone discovering them. The dog is mentioned to signify the level of caution needed in not drawing attention to themselves. The singer is afraid of being discovered and warns their lover that they are both in danger of being killed if caught. The chorus demands that the lover join them, and the repetition emphasizes the need for immediacy.
The second verse is equally urgent, instructing the lover to enter quickly and to not care about anything other than each other. The singer wants to forget about the world and their problems for a night, and the repetition of "not tonight" adds to the sense of temporary escapism. The song is seductive in its urgency, and the feeling of danger adds a sense of excitement and thrill to the encounter.
Overall, the lyrics to Come Over convey a sense of desperation and yearning for connection. The singer is willing to risk everything to be with their lover, and the sense of danger only heightens the urgency of the encounter. The song captures the feeling of wanting to escape reality for one night and live in the moment.
