The son of Henny and Reidar Harket, and brother to Ingunn, Gunvald, Kjetil and Håkon, Morten grew up in Asker. Early musical influences include Uriah Heep, Queen, Johnny Cash, David Bowie and Peter Gabriel. Before joining a-ha in 1982, Harket appeared on the Oslo club scene as the singer for blues outfit Souldier Blue.
After a-ha took a break in 1994, Morten pursued a solo career, and has so far released four albums. Two of those albums were sung in Norwegian, but his 1995 album, Wild Seed, became more of an International success because of its English lyrics. Morten worked with Håvard Rem, a Norwegian poet, to write most of the songs. A Kind of Christmas Card and Spanish Steps were the most successful numbers. The rest were either easy, simple songs, or more profound ones, like East Timor, and Brodsky Tune, which had messages in them. His latest solo album is called Letter from Egypt and was released in 2008.
Morten holds the record for the longest single note, for a man, in a song, having held a note for 20.2 seconds in a-ha's 2000 song Summer Moved On. This overtook the previous record of 18 seconds held by Bill Withers on the song Lovely Day. The longest note held by a woman is 23 seconds by Barbra Streisand in her 1979 album "Barbra Streisand and Other Musical Instruments", song, "I Never Has Seen Snow".
Morten's new solo album "Out Of My Hands" is released. Morten's also touring in 2012 in South America, United Kingdom and parts of Europe.

Do You Remember Me?
Morten Harket Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I am a different breed.
I came to set you free;
You got the best of me…
I am the pain you feel;
You almost made me real.
I brought you to your knees…
I walked a thousand miles
and here I am
Show me a world that I can understand.
Like a common man,
You are the one that can sift me from the sand…
Who do you think you are?
You tell me life is hard
I came in from afar
My life was in the star
I walked a thousand miles
and here I am
Show me a world that I can understand.
Like a common man,
You are the one that can sift me from the sand…
and here I am
Show me a world that I can understand.
Like a common man,
You are the void in my heart and in my hands…
I am the air you breathe;
I am your symphony.
I'm all you let me be…
What do you want from me?
Reaching out for your hand…
and here I am
Show me a world that I can understand.
I'm just a man;
Show me the key that you hold in your hand…
The lyrics of “Do You Remember Me?” by Morten Harket appear to be addressing an individual who played a significant role in the artist's life. Harket quickly sets the tone with the first verse, "Do you remember me? I am a different breed. I came to set you free; You got the best of me..." It appears that Harket is addressing someone who has had a profound impact on his life, and he's trying to remind them of the person he used to be.
Harket continues, "I am the pain you feel; You almost made me real. I brought you to your knees…Do you remember me?" Here, Harket is describing the emotional turmoil that this individual may have caused him while at the same time asking if they remember what they put him through. He then states, "I am the air you breathe; I am your symphony. I'm all you let me be…What do you want from me?" It appears as if Harket is reminding the individual of his importance in their life and asking for reciprocation.
Overall, the lyrics of "Do You Remember Me?" appear to be a desperate plea for acknowledgment and connection from someone who was instrumental in the artist's life.

Do you remember me? I am a different breed
I came to set you free, you got the best of me
I am the pain you feel, you almost made it real
I fought you to your knees, do you remember me?
I walked two thousand miles and here I am!
Show me your world, but I can understand
I become a man, you are the one who conceals me from the sand
Who do you think you are? You tell me life is hard
I came in from affar, my life was in the stars
I walked two thousand miles and here I am!
Show me your world, but I can understand
I become a man, you are the one who conceals me from the sand
And here I am, show me your world, but I can understand
I am just a man, you are the one that could shift me from the sand
I am the air you beathe, I am your symphony
I'm all you let me be, what do you want from me?
And here I am, show me your world, but I can understand
I am just a man, you are the one that could shift me from the sand

Where did your text come from?
you almost made me real...
I brought you to your knees...
Show me your world that I can understand like a common man...
you are the one that can sift me from the sand...
I came in from afar...
In the last refrain he is singing:
"And here I am
Show me your world that I can understand
Like a common man,
You are the void in my heart and in my hands.
Reaching out for your hand".
And the lines
"I am the air you breathe, I am your symphony
I'm all you let me be,
what do you want from me?"
are omitted in this performance.
