Motörhead released 23 studio albums, 10 live recordings, 12 compilation albums and five EPs over a career spanning 40 years. Usually a power trio, they had particular success in the early 1980s with several successful singles in the UK Top 40 chart. The albums Overkill, Bomber, Ace of Spades and, particularly, the live album No Sleep 'til Hammersmith cemented Motörhead's reputation as a top-tier rock band. The band are ranked number 26 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. As of 2016, they have sold more than 15 million albums worldwide.
Most often classified as heavy metal, Motörhead has been credited with being part of and influencing numerous musical scenes, thrash metal and speed metal especially. Lemmy, however, always insisted that they were a rock and roll band. He said that they had more in common with punk bands, but with their own unique sound, Motörhead is embraced in both punk and metal scenes. Their lyrics typically covered such topics as war, good versus evil, abuse of power, promiscuous sex, substance abuse and, most famously, gambling, the latter theme being the focus of their hit song "Ace of Spades".
Lemmy died on 28 December 2015 from cardiac arrhythmia and congestive heart failure, after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. The day after his death, drummer Mikkey Dee and guitarist Phil Campbell both confirmed that Motörhead had disbanded. By 2018, all three members of Motörhead's best-known line-up (Lemmy, Taylor and Clarke) had died.

Took her to a bar, I though I'd covered all my tracks
Thought I had it made, I felt daggers in my back
You came walkin' through the door sailed into the attack
Don't seem to be my night
You got me bang to rights
I ain't gonna fight it baby, there ain't no excuse
Don't know what to tell ya, but I hope you don't cut loose
You got me stitched up tight
You got me bang to rights
I can tell you ain't exactly listening to me
I just wish that I could thing of some place else to be
I'm can make it up to you, just you wait and see
My future ain't too bright
You got me bang to rights
The lyrics of "Bang to Rights" by Motörhead depict a man's guilty conscience after cheating on his significant other. The singer reflects on his actions, thinking that he had covered all his tracks, only to be caught in the act by his partner. He acknowledges that he has been caught "bang to rights" and that he cannot deny his wrongdoing. Despite his attempts to apologize and make amends, he is resigned to the fact that his actions have put him in a bad position and that he must face the consequences of his infidelity.
The song's lyrics also reflect the narrative of a man who has lost control of his life and is at the mercy of his partner, who holds him accountable for his actions. The lyrics are a testament to the power of guilt and the realization that one's mistakes can come back to haunt them. The song is a raw and emotional tribute to the consequences of cheating, and demonstrates a remorseful attitude towards the singer's actions.
