Motörhead released 23 studio albums, 10 live recordings, 12 compilation albums and five EPs over a career spanning 40 years. Usually a power trio, they had particular success in the early 1980s with several successful singles in the UK Top 40 chart. The albums Overkill, Bomber, Ace of Spades and, particularly, the live album No Sleep 'til Hammersmith cemented Motörhead's reputation as a top-tier rock band. The band are ranked number 26 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. As of 2016, they have sold more than 15 million albums worldwide.
Most often classified as heavy metal, Motörhead has been credited with being part of and influencing numerous musical scenes, thrash metal and speed metal especially. Lemmy, however, always insisted that they were a rock and roll band. He said that they had more in common with punk bands, but with their own unique sound, Motörhead is embraced in both punk and metal scenes. Their lyrics typically covered such topics as war, good versus evil, abuse of power, promiscuous sex, substance abuse and, most famously, gambling, the latter theme being the focus of their hit song "Ace of Spades".
Lemmy died on 28 December 2015 from cardiac arrhythmia and congestive heart failure, after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. The day after his death, drummer Mikkey Dee and guitarist Phil Campbell both confirmed that Motörhead had disbanded. By 2018, all three members of Motörhead's best-known line-up (Lemmy, Taylor and Clarke) had died.

Motörhead Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Another girl, another face,
Another truce, another race,
I'm eating junk, feeling bad,
Another night, I'm going mad,
My woman's leaving, I feel sad,
But I just love the life I lead,
Another beer is what I need,
We are the road crew
Another town I've left behind,
Another drink completely blind,
Another hotel I can't find,
Another backstage pass for you,
Another tube of super glue,
Another border to get through,
I'm driving like a maniac,
Driving my way to hell and back,
Another room a case to pack,
We are the road crew
Another hotel we can burn,
Another screw, another turn,
Another Europe map to learn,
Another truck stop on the way,
Another game I learn to play,
Another word I learn to say,
Another bloody customs post,
Another fucking foreign coast,
Another set of scars to boast,
We are the road crew
The lyrics to Motörhead's song "Road Crew" tell the story of the life of a touring rock band. The opening lines describe the constant movement of the band from one town to another, with another girl and another face to see at every stop. The next lines hint at the toll this lifestyle takes on the body, with the singer eating junk food and feeling bad. He is also dealing with emotional distress, as his woman is leaving him.
Despite these challenges, the singer expresses a deep love for the life he leads as a musician on the road. He seeks comfort in another beer and the rush of playing another gig, which causes his ears to bleed. The chorus declares the pride of the members of the road crew, who are the backbone of the band's success.
The second verse further illustrates the frenzied nature of touring life, with the singer admitting to being "completely blind" after another drink. He and his crew often find themselves lost in yet another hotel, with the challenge of navigating unfamiliar borders as they move from one country to another. The singer admits to driving like a maniac, pushing to get to their next destination even if it means risking their lives on the road. All of this is part of the job for the road crew, from burning hotels to dealing with customs and foreign coasts. Despite the stresses of the job, the road crew takes pride in their ability to conquer these challenges.
