Motörhead released 23 studio albums, 10 live recordings, 12 compilation albums and five EPs over a career spanning 40 years. Usually a power trio, they had particular success in the early 1980s with several successful singles in the UK Top 40 chart. The albums Overkill, Bomber, Ace of Spades and, particularly, the live album No Sleep 'til Hammersmith cemented Motörhead's reputation as a top-tier rock band. The band are ranked number 26 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. As of 2016, they have sold more than 15 million albums worldwide.
Most often classified as heavy metal, Motörhead has been credited with being part of and influencing numerous musical scenes, thrash metal and speed metal especially. Lemmy, however, always insisted that they were a rock and roll band. He said that they had more in common with punk bands, but with their own unique sound, Motörhead is embraced in both punk and metal scenes. Their lyrics typically covered such topics as war, good versus evil, abuse of power, promiscuous sex, substance abuse and, most famously, gambling, the latter theme being the focus of their hit song "Ace of Spades".
Lemmy died on 28 December 2015 from cardiac arrhythmia and congestive heart failure, after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. The day after his death, drummer Mikkey Dee and guitarist Phil Campbell both confirmed that Motörhead had disbanded. By 2018, all three members of Motörhead's best-known line-up (Lemmy, Taylor and Clarke) had died.

Motörhead Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Nowhere to hide and not a thing that you can do
You're on his mind, you're on his mind
You're gonna leave the human race,
You know you can't stand the pace
Gonna sink without a trace
Don't try to run, he's gonna find you day or night
Just sit and shiver and be ready for the bite
You're on his mind, you're on his mind
You're lost in hostile space, gonna feel the cold embrace
You're in a state of grace, he's gonna steal your face
Nowhere to run you know he's never far away
Knows where you are and he gets closer every day
You're on his mind, you're on his mind
And I'll bet that he can't wait
You know he's gonna take the bait
Gonna be on your case
He's gonna steal your face
He's gonna steal your face
He's gonna steal your face
He's gonna steal your face
The lyrics to Motörhead's song Steal Your Face describe a relentless pursuit by an unknown entity. The entity in question is described as slow-moving but determined. The subject is warned that they cannot hide and have no options to defend themselves. The haunting refrain of "You're on his mind" is repeated throughout the song, emphasizing the victim's inevitable fate. The chorus warns the subject that they are going to leave behind the human race, unable to keep up with the pace of the chase. They are lost in hostile space, feeling a cold embrace, and ultimately, they will have their face stolen.
The song paints a picture of terror, as the victim is left with no agency or control over their fate. They are at the mercy of their pursuer, who is always lurking, waiting to strike. The lyrics imply a supernatural element, as the entity is described as being able to find its victim day or night, always getting closer. The use of the phrase "steal your face" heightens the sense of horror since stealing someone's face is an act of violence that leaves the person without their identity.
Overall, the lyrics to Motörhead's song Steal Your Face are a warning about the dangers of being pursued relentlessly. The lyrics emphasize the victim's helplessness, creating a sense of dread and tension throughout the song.
