My Favorite Accident
Motion City Soundtrack Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There was no chance of us at all
With no velocity and empty headed hard and far too long
I spent two years alone with you
Just when I thought I had forgotten
You came back soft without a sound
With accidents you never know what could have been
So we were an accident
You'll always be my favorite one
You hit the road and left me an ocean
I can't swim in the silence of your skin skin Please let me in-
Side the times we never had right
Inside two years alone with you
You said we were an accident
With accidents you never know what could have been
So we were an accident
You'll always be my favorite one
We could have been
We could have been
Instead of accidental running always running
Why can't you believe
Long winded promises of future company
Up close the sound remains the same
Without the reign of terror over every momentary change
We are exactly as before
You hit the road and left me an ocean
I can't swim in the silence of your skin skin Please let me in-
Side the time I had to forget you
Inside no chance of us at all
The singer in the song "My Favorite Accident" describes a past romantic relationship that was doomed from the start. They received signals that it would not work out but continued anyway, spending two years alone together. After some time of separation, the ex-lover returns and refers to the relationship as an accident. The singer is conflicted between holding onto the potential of what could have been versus accepting the reality of their flawed relationship. The lyrics paint a picture of a relationship that was damaging, yet still holds a sort of nostalgic fondness for the singer.
The overall tone of the song is bittersweet, and the repeated phrase "we were an accident" emphasizes the idea of things falling apart without intent. The lyrics cleverly use the word "accident" to describe the relationship. An accident can refer to something unexpected or unintentional, but it can also be a destructive event. In this context, the relationship was not necessarily intended to be harmful, but in the end, it caused pain.
Overall, "My Favorite Accident" captures the complexity of relationships and how sometimes we hold onto the memory of something that wasn't ideal, but was still precious. The song is relatable to anyone who has gone through a breakup and is struggling to move on.

It's you versus the clock. Who's gonna win?
Boost, Boost, Boost, people! It's all about speed and control.
Take one insane burner, a street filled with traffic, spark the ignition and fly.
16 years later, and it's still the greatest racing game to hit the market.

Kids these days will probably ask what Burnout is. Sitting around in my room, with a CRT TV, causing carnage in 2005, that's my definition of Burnout. Probably one of my memorable moments. Chilling in the early fall, playing Burnout and being young.

Feeling exactly the same here! They just don't make games like this anymore. I play Burnout Paradise on the PC sometimes, but it just doesn't compare to the good times I spent nearly 10 years ago in my PS2 with Burnout 3... fortunately for me, both the console and the game still work, on the same old CRT TV (some things never changes :']).

I loved this band, and foolishly grew to learn the bitter messages. This band taught me so much, about the music I want to make, the feeling I hope people share, how to live with yourself even if you're a loser.

When you're 8 years old and a video game introduces you to new music and bands that now, still in 2017, define who you are. Thank you Motion City Soundtrack and Burnout 3 (best one in the series, dont argue it, i own them all) for defining me a punk race car driver.
