Overkill
Motörhead Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Only way to feel the noise is when it's good and loud,
So good you can't believe it's screaming with the crowd,
Don't sweat it, get it back to you,
Overkill, Overkill

On your feet you feel the beat, it goes straight to your spine,
Shake your head you must be dead if it don't make you fly,
Don't sweat it, get it back to you,
Overkill, Overkill

Know your body's made to move, feel it in your guts
Rock 'n' roll ain't worth the name if it don't make you strut,

Don't sweat it, get it back to you,
Overkill, Overkill

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Motörhead's Overkill are all about the intensity and adrenaline rush that comes with experiencing heavy metal music live. The first verse expresses that the only way to truly "feel the noise" is when it is incredibly loud and powerful, so much so that you can't believe the massive sound is being created by the crowd itself. The repetition of the phrase "Overkill" reinforces the idea that the experience of the music is so intense that it almost becomes overwhelming, yet exhilarating at the same time.

The second verse continues to emphasize just how powerful the music is, with the lyrics describing how the beat goes straight to one's spine and how you must be dead if the music doesn't make you fly. The lyrics also mention the importance of movement and that it is necessary to feel the music in your guts to truly experience it. The final line of the song repeats the message of the chorus and reinforces the idea that this kind of intense and overwhelming experience is what makes it worth it.

Overall, the lyrics of Overkill are all about the energy and power of heavy metal music, and the way that it affects both the individual listener and the crowd as a whole.

Lemmy is the only dude who can be a viking, a cowboy, a biker, a pirate, a bassist, a guitarist, and singer at the same time

@Erny_Module

Also bastard, but would share his chips with you and beat you at pinball, and quote P.G. Wodehouse while doing it. A legend in his own lunchtime!

Lemmy was the realest guy in the music industry. When everyone started flying private jets and overcharging for tickets, Lemmy stayed the same. Same apartment, same bar, same music. It was never about the money. The guy even told his fans not to buy the record company’s Motorhead box set because of the inflated price. RIP Lemmy.

@BobGnarley.

For real - saw them 40th anniversary tour at Ipswich regent. You wouldn't expect them to be playing there considering it's Motorhead.. Tiny little intimate theatre. It was fuckin great
