They were inserted in 2001, and they were PIPs, which were filled with non-medical grade silicone and had a much higher rupture rate than other breast implants. No other implants react this way, even when they occasionally rupture. PIPs are no longer in circulation, and we never used them anyway here at Aurora Clinics. @Saarza We have never used PIP implants in our clinic. We would not lie about this, and we recommend that the patient contacts us so we can provide them with medical records and her breast implant registery entry which all surgeons are required to complete with implant details whenever breast surgery with implants is performed. Even though this was over 8yrs ago, it's still the worst rupture I've ever seen too. I can only imagine how sick & in pain this pt was in. The repair surgery looked very nicely done. Hope she had no further health issues due to the rupture!

The "creamy fluid" is not infection per se but it is a contributing factor to the symptoms of swelling, fatigue, soreness, rashes and potential infection. It is bodily fluid, that has come into contact with the non medical grade silicone found within PIP implants that creates this creamy fluid. It is still being analysed fully, but it is something we have only ever seen around PIP implants. Regards The Aurora Team

Sadly, ladies who currently have PIP implants do need to go through this. Removing PIPs is vitally important for anyone who currently has them, as you can see in this video, they can cause significant issues with their alarmingly high rupture rates. The Aurora Team

We find all of our patients' symptoms subside almost immediately following removal of their PIP implants. We feel surgery is the only option in PIP cases and urge anyone who has the implants to get them removed, even if they are not ruptured.

There is no proof that it can be lethal, but it can certainly make you very ill, with multiple symptoms and side effects being very common amongst women with ruptures. The fluid is still being analysed by many independent sources to find out exactly what damage it is causing to the body. Regards The Aurora Team

You did a beautiful job. Lucky for me, I've never felt a need to live with more then what God gave me. When I was younger up until I was 31, I was pretty skinny. I don't have to think about that anymore - if I ever did anyway. Thank God the medical community can help with the bad ones used in the past. I recall watching an Oprah episode where a woman had silicone loose in her body because a doctor just injected silicone into her breast - no implants. Basically, she was dying.

This procedure is actually implant removal and replacement. The implants removed are PIP implants, the substandard implants that have a much higher rupture rate than other implant manufacturers. They are now banned, and it has been all over the news recently. They rupture and produce a creamy fluid when mixed with bodily fluid, which can cause pain, inflammation, swelling amongst other side effects. Regards The Aurora Team

It is called a cutting diathermy. It is an electrical device which cuts and cauterises tissue at the same time. We use it as alternative to a scalpel because it produces less bleeding. Regards Adrian Richards

Most patients start to experience symptoms such as changes in breast shape and size, pain, firmness, and swelling if there implant ruptures but in some cases it can do undetected. We always advise our patients to come for yearly checks where we can check your implants and refer you for a scan if we feel necessary.

There are lots of different reasons as to why an implant would rupture. In most cases it is ageing of the implant but it could also be due to trauma such as a fall or surgical error. - The Aurora Team

A PIP rupture is simply a rupture of a breast implant that is a PIP. PIP Implants are a French implant which has now been taken off the market due to its weak shell and non medical grade silicone within the implant. Their rupture rate is considerably higher than other implants out there, which is why you see a lot more videos and stories about PIP ruptures. Regards The Aurora Team
